  • The Voice - Settler or Troops

Ok - I am rethinking this now. The Voice grows to size 4 next turn. It will hopefully produce a warrior unless the game converts our builds. I can re-arrange laborers frpm the fish tile to a woods tile to boost production if this happens - and get a spearman quickly.

Either way - I would like to discuss the option of producing another city.

The Voice continues to grow quickly. If we let it grow the worker is going to have to do some costly improvements to maximize the benefit of our GA - like roading forest tiles to get commerce.

We can produce a settler in 4 turns - just as The Voice is about to go to pop 5 and need a garrison. Also - we will not be able to pump out warriors with the iron connected.

At size 2 and 3, The Voice is capable of pumping out a warrior every second turn. And remember, it produces only regular units.

So - my suggestion is that we produce a settler next - settle the other North Estonia site - and let it also benefit from the 20 turns of the GA.

Good point Beta. How about if we have The Voice build a settler and then next in the queue have the city build a barracks (for future Veteran unit builds)?

Or maybe Barracks now and then vet units?

Barracks would take 5 turns - if we used the current shields (5). And we would need a garrison on 4 turns - nope - we have a temple. We still should be Ok at Miller Town and The voice at pop 5, right?

We have barracks in three cities now. I appreciate their value - but the Voice is going to have to continue to be our settler pump. The warriors and spearmen are just fillers.

I know we are into a do-or-die period here, and I am trying to figure which will be more useful over the next 20-30 turns. The settler pump aside.

The new city - will be similar to Harry's Hideout in production. 2 shields and 2 commerce. Which will be 4 and 4 under a GA.

We can get the same out of the Voice, simply by using more tiles. But then we get into a garrison issue eventually - and more cities means more growth - ie two cities collectively grow population faster than one.

The trick with the GA will be to have as many tiles as possible producing at lest one shield and one commerce.

The new city will catch the tail end of the GA with a population of size 2.

Another question - when does the food box change size - I can't recall - and will this be a consideration.

The food box changes after size 6. I think it's a good idea to build a city as our GA will be more productive that way.

I don't think we should build barracks in The Voice, at least not now. Because the city will grow and will need garrison, which will eat our treasaury and won't hlep us much in our plans... we should do the maths though...

Where will this city be placed?

On the SW coast of North Estonia - the tile just to the north and west of the hill tile. 3 tiles due south of Wittlich City - 4 tiles NW of Elipolis.

We need to road one more road tile to connect it - plus some more irrigation.

What we really need is a couple of Modern Armors and a Stealth Fighter for recon.

The Voice should be used for workers and settlers. We have one more site north of Elipolis to settle. Once we switch governments we will want to settle the area south of Elipolis. There is more for our workers to do and two of them will be heading south with the war party to start building a road south of Dissidentville. A couple more workers would be useful. Regular spearmen produced in-between can serve as city garrision either in large northern cities or conquered GS cities.

Question - does the GA kick in on the turn of the first Immortal victory - or the turn after. If I have calculated correctly - The Voice will be able to produce a settler in 3 turns - ie in two more turns - if the GA kicks in that turn. It will have stockpiled 18 shields over the first two turns, and can produce 12+ during a GA.

If it is the turn after - no point in trying to get it in 3 - we will just waste shields and I will switch the citizens around this turn to maximize food and gold.

I think it will happen on the turn that we get the first Immortal victory. But I am not 100 % sure

Yes, it happends on the turn of the first UU victory. Actually, it's instant - as soon as the UU wins, the golden age kicks in.
