The separate FA threads seem to be working well - and the combination correspondence and discussion works well with only one civ involved in each thread.
But I think we need to talk about how all the FA roles tie together, so I will start a discussion on the need for a Foreign Affairs oversight function.
We have separate advisors dealing with different nations. And sometimes we need to figure out what is going on with one civ to determine how we relate to another. A case in point from this week. I, with jon's thumbs up, closed the deal for Polytheism for 49 gold with GoW. Dissident quite rightly raised the issue of whether we should have approached RP, and offered to deal with them. Not only would we be directing our cash to a diferent civ, we would be cementing stronger ties with them.
Now sometimes a deal has to happen quickly. GoW sort of works like that. But usually there is time - or we should take time to weigh other options. And thus my suggestion that someone should take over the FA oversight role, to coordinate our stance, and trades with each of the civs.
I would suggest that this should rightly be jon's role, as team leader. In a MP game, foreign affairs is clearly the key to success. He should co-ordinate the role of the FA's, and give the thumbs up on key decisions and trades, in conjunction with that FA. The rest of the team kicks in their two cents worth as we always do.
It may slow down our response times somewhat, but it should lead to a more co-ordinated approach. It may also have prevented that botched attempt of mine dealing with NeuD.
Anybody else have any thoughts on this?
