  • Foreign Advisor/Ambassador

I know we discussed this. but we have someone in our introduction thread in the other forum asking for the best person to contact. I could say everyone, but I don't think that is cordial enough. We should hammer out all deals as a team, but we could use an ambassador to represent us and respond to e-mails.

    Any ideas?

I agree with Dissident. We need to decide on foreign affairs. As was said earlier - 'The dance has begun.'.

      (hehe - I'm in smiley heaven. )

The general views to date take two themes:

      1. The contoller also handles foreign affairs - I think this is generally Eli and Jon's position.

      2. We create a separate role for foreign affairs - which was my suggestion in the earlier thread - the VFA - Voice of Foreign Affairs.

I understand the advantages of the former - but I guess I'm somewhat attached to the latter - I'm thinking about one of the other five having something fun to do while the controller is playing the game. And being able to chat up the other teams and generally get into the gamesmanship part of it.

If these are the two general approaches - maybe we should vote. I could start a poll....

We should have a foreign minister, and it shouldnt be the controller.

We need someone constant, who will be able to develop long term contacts with people, and not the controller who will get replaced every few turns or weeks.

The job of the FM will be to keep contact with other teams, find out what they have to offer, what they want in return, etc. And then to bring this information to us, for us to discuss and decide, and when we decided, return to the other team, check whether they agree, barter if they dont.

It's not that fun to play the game. Remember that the controller must follow what we decide upon, so it's not like a succession game where you take over for 20 turns and do everything you want. And that includes Foreign Affairs.

yeah what he said. That is what I had in mind. He puts it in better words. Maybe Eli should be the Ambassador .

The only thing I wonder is maybe no one wants the job . I'm not the most social person, so I don't think I would be best at that.

I too believe we should have a seperate Foreign Minister/Ambassador, which is not the Controller.

I have received the following PM from ManicStarSeed.

                  Greetings From Gathering Storm

Greetings and salutations Eli and Vox Controli. I have been appointed to be Ambassador to your great nation. We wish you well. Although we are rivals, I hope that we can forge a mutually benificial friendship that can see us both through the ages.

Please feel free to contact me (via PM) with any questions, concerns or information you want me to pass on to my team.

We hope that our two teams would can come to some agreements regarding our communications.

First, we ask you to allow me to to quote our diplomatic PMs back to Gathering Storm. We would certainly extend the same courtisy, even if I can spell it. This will ease our jobs by avoiding unnecessary transcribing which can lead to errors.

Second I personally intend to confirm reciept of messages within 24 hrs. I check in here at least once a day (for the most part). f in the event I am unavailal and you need immediat contach, Please contact Meshelic.

Third, since Diplomacy will primarily happen via PM, can you act as our primary point of contact. I think It will really wind up being easier this way? If you, not who should it be? Who will serve as back-up? I am assuming Flash right now.

                  RL is calling me away,

                  I eagerly await your reply.

                  Regards;
                  ManicStarSeed

My response was that we are in the process of selecting a Foreign Minister who will deal with all these stuff.

Since we are being approached by other teams regarding who to contact - and as we have decided we want a separate position to handle foreign affairs - (and I think the position should be VFA - Voice of Foreign Affairs)

                      - all those who would like to take on the role as first VFA of Vox Controli should now declare their candidacy. I will then establish a poll for voting.

(their is also the position of Borc form ND who said something along the lines of check back with us in a couple of hundred years when we have evolved a bit and have something to talk about. But, hey, all the banter in the meantime is fun.

Let's hear from you if you want the job.

                          No one else???

You guys been reading the thread on the Persuadable Nature of the Glory of War??

Raises some interesting questions regading foreign affairs vis-a-vis GoW- including, if they are close by, and even if you didn't want to do business - we might want to consider a retainer just to keep them at peace with us.

Or, better yet - get together with some others and take 'em out.

If you're going to be a FM, you should really get ICQ.
