    Hello Golden

I have heard your team is looking to quit. Tell me this is not so?

    Ruby

    Hi Ruby,

    Nope. No quitters here.

I guess that should have said, "Yes, this is not so." I think that he will get the point.

Now, who told him that we were thinking of quitting?

      Hi Golden,

Good to hear. You may want to share that with your allies, as they singing a different tune.

      Ruby

      Hi again,

Hmm. We only have one ally - LB, and LN is in it as long as we are.

      Soooo, come get us!

I had a long chat with paddy last night regarding the same thing. Lord nuclear had been spreading the information; would have been nice if he gave us a heads up.

At one point I had three separate MSN chats going with Paddy, Krill, and LN. A regular united nations in action.

I said that I doubt we will be quitting, but that no firm decision had been made yet.

Paddy went on to explain tthe grief he is getting in terms of nasty anonamous e-mails, etc, and that there is some movement afoot to get him kicked from Poly. I told him I was not aware of anything on either of those fronts, nor would I condone it.

We then went on to have a fairly frank conversation about the game, and the tensions, and the hard feelings and the damaged relationships. (apparently Aqua is pulling out of all pbem games that Paddy is in). Paddy started the conversation by asking me if I was doing the same.

It took me awhile - paddy is incredibly defensive and self-righteous about all this - but I finally got him to realize that ALL of us (Euphorica, DR, LB, and Babylon) were not being poor sports, but that we all feel much the same way. He gain tried to defend his actions, and I explained that regardless of his rationale, our feelings regarding his and his teams behaviour were valid, and warranted. I explained the roleplay issue, and using personal relations to achieve in-game goals (and he couldn't figure out why Aqua was so steamed - gotta wonder), etc, etc, etc. I explained that if it was only me feeling this way, I would go and look in the morror. But given that there is a wide range of very reasonable people feeling the same way, I don't think my views are out of line. He finally got the point.

I also suggested a mellowing of their diplomatic approach, and maybe even a public mea culpa may go a log way to helping matters. But I don't think that is going to happen.

There is an interesting team dynamic going on there. Paddy indicated that all 17 are fairly active, and he tried to explain that he does not always get waht he wants (ie peace with babylon). I think they have a fairly tight team, with some extreme personalities on it, and they are feeding off of each other and their absoluite belief they are right. It would make a great case study in team dynamics.

Paddy during the conversation basically went on a rant bragging about their approach to the game - targetting different civs, pitting us againts each other, sowing mistrust, etc. Everything we already knew they were doing, and doing it well. I congratulated them on a brilliant strategy and a well-played game, but that that was not the point.

We ended on fairly civil terms.

Anonymous emails? That's not nice. I may be a jerk sometimes, but I'll be out there where people can see me do it.

These folks seem to have a hard time with the concept:
If all five other teams in the game think that you behave like horses' rumps and that you sucked all the fun out of the game - then you probably did behave that way and did ruin the game for everybody else.

          Sigh.

"Winning is the ONLY thing." Not a good way to make it through life and be happy with yourself.

Paddy claimed the same thing when they first betrayed us, I forget whom he said he thought they were from ...

Honestly, I don't believe a word he says anymore, he vacillates so much between various things... he's always so sorry that things went this way, etc. ...

              In chat with Paddy...

              Paddy says:
              yes
              Paddy says:
and we already have 4 battle Hordes, one on your border, one on AM's, and now two on LB's - one was for DR but well

                and ...

                Beta says:
True - So - do you think in a peace deal you could force AM to give back certain lands.
                Beta says:
                Yes - Cheers.
                Paddy says:
AM - no I think they will let you try to take them back first
                Beta says:
                sigh...
                Paddy says:
I can only advise you of one thing in that, they have plenty of pikes over east - they were there guarding against my lads doing things against resources and towns
                Paddy says:
we not there now, you see us, so I dare say those pikes moved as well

The simple of adage )sp?) of being gracefull both in victory and defeat would have gone a looooooooooong way towards buffering all the bullshiit Paddy is going thru right now.

I go back to that rule of thumb I learned in the first grade:

"If you can't say something nice then dont say anything at all".

                    Basically the Horde is:

If you can't say something to piss someone off, dont say anything at all".

And bull**** on his peace with Babylon, nothing isn't going to convince me that entire thing was staged and brilliantly executed.

And I wonder where this banning comment came from? Beta have you heard anything from Ming?
*"Winning is still the goal, and we cannot win if we lose (gawd, that was brilliant - you can quote me on that if you want. And con - I don't want to see that in your sig."- Beta
