  • Our role in the World War

It is very likely that the rest of the world will soon be at war. Lego has already indicated they have ships on the way transporting military units to Bob. It is just a matter of time before events occur that will drag them into the war. As Beta pointed out in the GS thread, we have three options:
    • Neutrality - Play Switzerland, stay out of the war, and be the wheeler and dealer middle man (providing there is some wheeling and dealing that can be done).
    • Join the Lego/GoW/ND alliance - Do what we can to get into the action, or maybe just provide support in some fashion to Lego.
    • Plan X - Cut a deal with GS to enter the war on their side but in reality we use some or all the funds for other purposes. As noted in the GS thread, we need to come up with a number for GS to buy our way into the war.

I would also like to add:
    • GS plan - Do the deal with GS straight and invade GoW/ND. If Lego enters the war we could still proceed with the GS plan but not push to hard to conquer territory (tell GS we ran into resistance). This should allow us to stay on the good side of GS and maybe still play the middle man in trade deals.

This is the thread to discuss these options. If you have other ideas please post them.

    Hmm - thinking about it.

One thing on the fourth option - according to our treaty with Lego we would need their OK to do this - and if they are allying with GoW/ND, I suspect we would not get a favourable response.

Regarding plan X, it seems to me that we would need a good pile of change to make it worth our while. A big question here is will GoW let us keep the isalnd. If yes - then less money would be needed from GS, but the question then becomes - how much would we need to give to GoW.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Before we can make a decision we need to come up with a number to send to GS for them to buy our way into the war. Once we have a number we can talk to GoW and see what it would take to buy the island and do a phoney war. Then we can see what we have left and adjust our number before we send it to GS. Here are a few things we need to consider/count:
      • Upgrade our gallies to caravels. We might be able to do without the upgrade but we might as well include it so GS pays for it.
      • Rushing units. We only have a few immortals. We need more and a few knights too. A few defensive units should also go along for protection and to garrision conquered cities. We need to decide on how many of each type. In considering the size of our military we need to keep some units in reserve for a defensive force on Voxtavia just in case GoW or ND decides to invade us.
      • Do we need more caravels or will our existing fleet of 4 be enough?
      • Unit maintenance. The increase in the size of our military will reduce our gpt which means less money available for rushing improvements and later for research.

        I would recommend:

(sorry for the ?? but I am at work and cannot recall the upgrade costs)

        - upgrade cost for 4 galleys (?? gold)
        - we produce 2 more galleys su upgrade cost for two more two caravels (??gold)

(although when you think about it - we can get to the island just fine with galleys. But caravels would be nice.)

        - we produce six warriors - so upgrade cost to for six immortals. (240 gold)

        - we produce 4 horsemen - so upgrade cost for four knights. (?? gold)

        - we produce 4 spearman - so upgrade cost for four pikemen, (80 gold)

        - then we need to consider possibly the cost of rushing two barracks, and maybe one harbour.

        - and then there is the issue of the extra maintenance costs of two barracks, and some 16 extra units - ie 18 per turn.

It will be a large bill. Perhaps we consider getting GS to fund - say 75% of the bill - with a view to getting them to pay 50%. Even at that - would this be something we would want to do? Hmmm...
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

It will definitely take a lot of cash to make it even conceivable to pursue plan X. And then add on the cost of what GoW would want to consider the plan too. I'd like to see a little more from them first about what they are going to offer.

It may be we'll just have to tell them we don't have the infrastructure and they don't have the cash to give us for this plan to work. We'll see.

I don't think we can acutally fight right now]

building where others are not beacuse they are fighting sounds like a good idea

and it would probably be best to stay on Lego's good side

I actually prefer neutrality unless we see an obvious open opportunity. We can't pass up on opportunities. But unless that happens, why get involved?
