  • The State of Spain: 1075bc

I bring great news to you, heads of the most wealthy and influential families of Spain, that we have brought Spain from a small frightened farming community to a great world power, in fact we are The Strongest Military force in the known world!

The secrets of iron have finally been put to work as a virtual army of blacksmiths in Madrid have fashioned superior weapons from iron brought from Vigo by our many slaves! Three mighty divisions of highly skilled warriors now train and prepare in Madrid, and we have the iron and materials to fully equip many, many more!

I call you here today, great lords and leaders of men, to tell you that I have kept my promise to Spain. Just as my father, and his father before him have lead Spain into prosperous times, the rule of Augusto Togas shall be known as the Time of Great Strength, for now we can surely call ourselves a strong, and we can truely begin to understand the influence Spain wields over the lesser nations of the world.

Just this month I have returned from a conference with the leaders of the two most dangerous nations in the world ... nations who's armies are now inferior to ours ... and I am proud to say that we have united around a common cause, the cause of preserving our land and protecting it from outsiders. Right now soldiers from Vox Controli have landed in old Luxia and our new Pact brothers are working to rid the continent of them ... instead of conspiring against us. This development shall further ensure the Security and Strength of Spain, two thing which have been my foremost priorities.

We are in communication with the mysterious Legolanders, who have promised to fully instruct us on a mythical concept they have learned while traveling into the dark corners of their island ... a simple but highly evolved approach to governance that, it seems clear to me, is destined to be implimented here in Spain.

This new idea is simple: The leader of Spain and his line shall be chosen by the gods themselves. Instead of the will and blessing of men, the rulership of Spain shall be ordained by the gods themselves! This position, King of Spain, shall also serve as the voice of the devine in our world, and the sons of the King shall forever be Princes ... training and learning from birth to assume the tremendous responsibility of guiding Spain.

Should you, the people of Spain, choose to impliment this new principle, and should the priests and wisemen agree to the truth of this concept, we will undergo a great change, but a change that will transform Spain into the world's first Monarchy.

I ask you to consider the evidence before you. The line of Togas has blessed Spain. You must be convinced that these great things are, indeed, more than just the work of human wisdom, it is in fact the spark of the divine that lives and acts in my family and through my bloodline.

I ask you to judge for yourselves and decide. Will you name me, Augusto Togas, the first King of Spain?

The Watcher is proud of having participated in the safety of the Togas line up to the point where the gods choose Togas as King of Spain.

Long life to the King of Spain !

The evidence is clear, and doesn´t allow room for doubt. Not only the Spanish gods bless our country, but the men analysis also show it. In the last years our Great Lord Togas has managed to give Spain the most powerful army in the world while at the same time keeping pace with the expansionist civilizations. We are about the same size than them (even a bit longer), but much stronger.

Long life to the King of Spain!!!

            Sir,

I have come back from our operations near Vigo. As you know, my brother Hernan the III is a head of iron supplying organizations for the Spanish government in the Vigo district, and I must say, it is the most impressive thing I've ever seen.

In a way, it is dark. I think of it and shudder. The hills are torn up and borrowed into as if done by giant moles. Smoke belches out into the sky, and inside, our smiths beat iron into shape, fix it into a blade, cool it down in water, and send it out to our troops. It is surely the most incredible thing I have ever seen.

Our armies are magnificient. The royal blue banners catch in the breeze and flutter wildly, and our men cheer your name. We will go anywhere for you. Let us hunt down these Voxian scum! These villain invaders who seek to force their vile book down our throats! Let us drive them off our continent with this might force, and strike fear into the hearts of our neighbors, to show that Spain is not to be trifled with!

My Lord Togas, as Assistant High Priest of Madrid, and High Priest of Herminor, I would tell you that I would find it a greater blessing than any to anoint your head with oil and proclaim you King. Give us the word, Lord Togas, and we will rally round you as our King and Master.

Sir, one final thing I must give you...

For many generations, my seed has flourished in the Squidimark valley. My grandfather, Hernan de History Guy Calamari, owned a sword called 'Excalibur', which he used in battle against the vile Goths. My King, it is said that no man weilding this magic blade into battle can be harmed by any earthly weapon, and indeed, though he fought in the thickest part of the field, my grandfather received not a scratch, and his enemies's swords fractured upon his armor.

As King, I feel you must wield it into battle for our country.

            I give you...EXCALIBUR!!!

(the sword is lifted from the sheath, and light shines from it, half-blinding everyone in the room but the Priest and the King...)

            Fernand de History Guy Calamari
            Assistant High Priest
            High Priest of Herminor
            Empire growing,
            Pleasures flowing,
Fortune smiles and so should you.

Iron is useful even in peacetime too: if you get a block of iron and run in over your clothes, they magically get smooth.

                        Great Despot,

I hear that we will name you Majesty, because you are discovering a new form of government ? Inspired by gods ?

And that you will put a crown over your head ?

What a fantastic idea !!!!! But you will need new forms of military units, well shaped shields, and armours and swords !!

Let me study all that, ....and in the meanwhile, I give you my best Sword !!

                        Your faithful General,

Oh...a word of warning about Excalibur...sometimes, when you are passing lakes, women will hop out and attempt to grab it from you. Don't worry about it. Just ride on. It's just some great annoyance.

As for the crown, would you prefer beaten gold and silver, or something more in the form of a jeweled item...

                            Oh Great Despot,

I have spent these recent months on the shores near Barcelona, studying the writings of the gods, in particular the god who oversees Spain, Poseidon. I have seen his work first hand as he brings the fish and squid to the fisherman in great droves. And those who have angered him have fallen to his wrath, just as I believe my great grand father did.

While walking along the shore, and praying to Poseidon, I did hear a load roar from the sea and then some laughing. I looked and beleive I saw a women with fins and a great tail. She was laughing and as I approached she dove into the sea. I could not see her, but I could hear her whispers amongst the roars of the waves and she whispered ---Togas Augustos, Rey de Esapana.

Apparently, the women-fish, the creation of the great Poseidon, was telling me you his Lord Poseidon has deemed you to be a demi-god and you are to rule all Espana, from Saragossa to Barcelona to Madrid. You are to unit the great families under one rule and centralize all that belongs to Spain for the greater good of Espana.

I have studied this idea of government. It has many benefits. The centralized rule will cut down on a great amount of waste and corruption that comes with the layers of control over the people. The people will owe their allegiance to you and not the local powerful family. No longer will they be taxed and worked from multiple authorities. This will help Espana continue to grow.

Furthermore, the centralization of economic power will make the distribution of goods much more efficient and improve our wealth. It will help us centralize our work force and roads can build faster, mines can dig deeper, and land can be irrigated more efficiently.

Finally, centralizing power to one, will centralize the various military bands that guard Espana. They will act concertedly. The will develop faster, they will fight better and this will only make us stronger.

Viva Togas Augusto the first King of Espana.
                            Viva Espana
May Poseidon continue to bless us and make us great

About the crown, Mylord, I'm in the jewelry business and I can order something for you. I know the best Gold and silversmiths of the country and I import lapis from Persia and amethyst from Arabia. I have diamonds from the north and opals from the Eneres Mountains, and of course our own beautiful Spanish Sea pearls. I have good contacts Mylord so if you want anything else, I can arrange that for you.
I suggest that Fernand Calamari and I manage this.
