Señor de Leon,
If the Great Togas bless my request, I would have Astrologix coming back to Madrid in order to irrigate te #18 tile to prepare the Temp City settlement.
Madrid can MAKE a worker faster than one can return from the western frontier.
But in any event all workers toil for the benefit of Espania.
Leon will serve Spain as a settler or worker pump, and should help boost our growth. Getting it up and running quickly is my foremost concern.

Señor de Leon,
We have a decision to take : is Leon still an immediate goal or should it be changed to only build a straight road between Vigo and Pamplona ?
And, I agree that Madrid could build a worker faster, but this city is intended to build a settler after the Horseman is completed...
Yes, we are facing some complex choices to be made...

Pamplona: nothing new..."The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country." -- Abraham Lincoln

I have decided to make the City of Leon a priority, and with Roadcage's efficient crew, it will shortly be a worker/settler factory, and will assist Pamplona in it's task of settling our great wilderness.
Roadcage's worker orders are approved.

We are now stronger than ANYONE with our military!
GoW built a city on the isle called Taiwan. ND is building cities eastward, but not in the valley N of Madrid. Both of our neighbors are in total REX mode. We, strangely enough, have the strongest military.
We are in 100% tax mode, doing no research.

They'd better call that city Taipei and that island Taiwan

It does not imly that the others have less than 3 swordsmen, I think there must be some calculation that gives these indications. I have but no idea which.
We should also be not too optimistic. This indication could also mean the we are strong due to our large defensive army combined with these new swordsmen

I think, but don't quote me, that it's an accumulation of the combined offensive and defensive values of the units. So a warrior being 1/1 is a value of 2 and a spearman being 1/2 is a value 3.
Using this as a guild, our totals before and after the upgrade are:
Spearmen - 14 ---> value of 42
Horsemen - 1 ---> value of 3
Subtotal - 45
Before Upgrade: Warriors - 9 ---> value of 18
After Upgrade:
Warriors - 6 ---> value of 12
Swordsmen - 3 ---> value of 15
Subtotal - 27 (increase of 9)
Total before upgrade - 63
Total after Upgrade - 72
Still average with a total of 69 (before the 3rd warrior was upgraded).
We still have 6 more warriors that need to be upgraded, which will add an additional 18 points to our total, bringing it up to 90. we need to get those warriors back to be upgraded as soon as possible, and replace them with either swordsmen or Horsemen, depending on where they are patroling.
