  • In the Madrid Palace

Roberto Fernandez was in his office at Palace, behind the table lost into his thougts.

That day he had been to the "Iberian Delight" tavern, one of the most famous Spanish taverns of all the times. It is said that the first clan leaders gathered there after defeating the evil barbaric tribes and settling Madrid, because the palace didn't existed yet. In fact, they even din't know what a palace was. Roberto had never been to that tavern. He only new about it because his father, the former slave master, had told him about that place. But strangely he knew exactly where to go to reach the "Iberian Delight". When he arrived there he found that the tavern had been closed for years, maybe even centuries.

He left the tavern with an unpleasant feeling. Then he went to several other places. Several squid companies, "the Cow-Valley" (a company that imported stones from the cow Valley long before Pamplona was settled) even the former Irrigation Offices of the Fernandez family. They all were closed and abandoned.

Roberto went back to the palace, and called one of the most elder servants to his office.
    "Did you call my lord?"
"yes. As one of the eldest here I supose you remember all the former Spanish leaders"
    "I certainly do, Señor"
"Then I supose that you can tell me when you saw señor F-Pro last time"
"It certainly had to be very long ago, because I don't remember having seen him for a very long time"
"Right. And what about señor Lord Davinator?"
    "The same señor"
    "Luk? Naervod?"
"Lots of ancient clan leaders and families are completely missing nowadays señor"
"That's what I noticed. In adition some others are seen very rarely and in strange ways. Madrid governor, for example, is never at his office, but some people say they've seen him here and there. He appeared to say that some important business kept him away and the disapeared again for weeks or even months".
"That doesn't looks good. Sir. Is like someone is trying to abduce all the Spanish leaders. But who?"
"That's what I am going to investigate"

    Mistery is in the air,
many clan leaders vanishing, and not only regular people, some of the important folks too!

*whisper*There are lots of wild tales and gossips about this, but the weird is that most of the lords seem to act as if it was normal, as if they hadn´t vanished.

I shall try to aid you.

Guifré Pikesfan, who had just stopped by the new Academy of Philosophy, was heard to say, “I wonder if some of those families, like the Luk and Davinator family, were not real, but figments of our imagination?”

They weren't, my great grandfather knew them all, like my grandfather, but that was so long ago.

Maybe Señor Guifré is right. I've heard at the Academia that some spirits came down to guide us during the ancient times. They could be such clan leaders.

However, some missing clan leaders are well known ones. They for sure were normal people, like you and me. And now noone knows where they are.

Does the watcher know something of it, he is the person appointed to keep an eye on people. Perhaps he knows where they have gone to?

Carlo Togas, third cousin of Augusto Togas, whistles as he wanders into the empty palace and then stops suddenly, nearly dropping the thick scrolls tucked away in his arm.

"Wha...? What is everyone doing here? The Arnelos clan has not been living in this mansion for years. Lord Togas kicked out the remnants of them ages ago. After the dissapearance of Diego Clemente the family has been nothing but a dissapointment. A few women, a begger, a few scoundrals -- now in the service of Madrid digging irrigation -- nothing much to talk about. It's a shame, really, as their family has a proud history of service to Spain. Perhaps in a generation or two a new Arnelos will return the family to fame."

I hope so, the Clemente clan is one of the most famous clans, remembered in the sagas etc.

And Diego Clemente was a wise person. Your highness, Carlo Togas, doesn't your uncle know if the watcher knows something of it. The watcher should know something of it and now that the people are getting worried it's best to tell them what has happened to these respected persons.

I know that I seem like I've disappeared. But I haven't, I've just settled into a secluded retirement from the busy life of an upper crust. Sure, I still farm some Squid and grain, but only on the side; now I spend most of my days recollecting in my hut, and raising my great grandchildren.

High Priest: Do the prophecies tell anything about the vanished clan leaders? Maybe we can find a clue that helps us to solve that mistery.

                          Grand nobles of Spain!

I am back after my military stay in Saragossa. I wanted to fight against the Moslems, ready to give my life for the glory of our fatherland.

But the gods decided some differently and instead that I've taken the disease while crossing the jungles of the north. Nevertheless, I had the joy of seeing that my Pelayo son was named at the head of the armies of our country! While returning to Barcelona, of passage by Madrid, I note that the work undertaken by my back large father was completed! Our young dictator, Augusto Togas, can finally remain in a palace worthy of his glorious line!

I am an old sick man, my days from now are counted, I withdraw myself in Barcelona to die there in peace. Now that my son was named at the head of our army, Spain does not have a Chief Architect anymore. Can be that one of these nobles disappeared will be able to take again this important job ?

Before dying, listen to the advise of this old man: never make confidence with the Moslems. They intend to invade our grounds and to kill our wives and our children. Not, do not laugh, the threat is quite real!

What is the significance of those two stone things on either side of the palace, O Chief Architect?

I'm no Cheif Architect, but they might be to signify "Don't Touch, we're putting something else here soon." A new addition to the Palacio de Togas.

However, it is puzzling: What is the purpose of them?
