I totally desagree with building now standard warriors to be upgraded to swordsmen.
As far as priorities are concerned, I am not sure they have been clearly established. My suggestions are :
      - roads, including the road to the iron
      - barracks in Madrid and Pamplona
      - iron city
      in that order.

I suggest also that we reassess our tech trade policy.

Oh that would make a great invitation for them to visit us with that stack of Swordsmen, wouldn't it?

There is still a corridor between Pamplona and Saragossa but it can be easily closed. As for crossing our borders, they made such a fuss about Lux doing the same ...

I think dejon is right. We are not ready yet. Our diplomacy should be as kind as posible until the moment arrives. But I also agree with ruby_maser that they probably will try to settle at the other side, trying to make us the first to attack and present us as the bad guys,

I am not saying do this immediately, but if they attempt to settle by the gems, they settle by the iron as well. Can we allow that to happen?

In that case we think the same, ruby_maser Doing that is an action of war, even if we cannot tell them until we are ready to fight them.

I am at work and cannot do the save.

I need Dejon to do it. Please meet me in chat if you have questions. We may want to change the movements for GuOps to help corral the ND settler.

We also need to talk to ND to see what their intentions are.

The save was played in chat. Oliverfa ws kind enough to run it on his machine. Some changes have been made due to the current change in leadership and our new priorities. Changes will be posted here shortly and discussion should begin on how we can quickly impliment our NEED for defense, and then get back to our current style of development.

I'll start working on a plan for Madrid to be working on optimal military production ASAP.

Given the timing of the forest being chopped down, I may have to build at least one regular unit before I can afford to switch Madrid to a barracks (so that the 10 shields from the forest don't get wasted when the next unit build doesn't need them).

Since we can only build spearmen and archers for now, may I suggest that Madrid (as part of the defense plan) build at least 1 worker so that we can speed the rate at which the road to our source of iron (or at least horses) is linked to Madrid?

In my opinion, building workers in Madrid to speed the construction of the Madrid/Pamplona road does more for defense (since it will lead to veteran swordsmen sooner) than building a stack of archers now.

Building spearmen in between workers might be the optimal strategy for now.

What about a settler to found the city near the iron?

Hopefully, Lord Togas will allow Pamplona the chance to build one more settler. It will be done in 1400 BC, if it is the next queue.

From looking at the map, I think that, if ND were to play safe and go around our borders, we could set up a screen with our units that would give the settler the opportunity to get to the iron first.

Pamplona is our wealthiest city. Only Togas knows his plans, but my guess is that Pamplona has a chance to become the production center for our SEX (as Davout calls it )
