Pamplona produces a spearman this turn. Please have them fortify. The city will need the use of the other nearby spearman as well; it will reach size 4 before long.
The conscripts in the city are free to go hunt barbs or act as forward observers, or...
Please switch the queue to produce a Worker next. Thanks."The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country." -- Abraham Lincoln

MADRID
Man... that production bug, despite the fact that it "helps" us, is absolutely INFURIATING for attempting to plan ahead.
First of all, we are a turn behind on building the current spearman because of a mistake made several turns ago, but that's water under the bridge.
The impact of that mistake and its confluence with another pop increase for Madrid this turn mean that I have absolutely no idea what to set the WF for this turn.
I can suspect that Madrid will have an extra 2 shields like every other pop increase, but someone else (astrologix? ruby_maser?) had a theory that the game always selected the "best tile" to give those extra shields, raising the possibility that we could get only 1 extra shield or possibly even none.
Because of this unpredictability, it is very difficult to plan ahead the micromangement whenever there is a pop increase.
But I digress...
Togas,
Currently (this past turn), Madrid had 4 food left until pop increase and 10 shields until the spearman is complete. Since Madrid is making 4 food/turn and 5 shields/turn before the pop increase, it SHOULD raise to 4 population with no food stored and have 5 shields left to go toward the completion of the spearman.
- If that is the case, set the WF so that we're making 5 shields and maximize food and trade.
- If there are only 4 shields needed to complete the Spearman, set the WF so that we're making 4 shields and maximize food and trade.
etc......
We may end up wasting shields no matter what. If so, just maximize food and trade.
I'm going to have to come back to Madrid after this next turn to tweak the next portions of the long-range plan so that I can take whatever happens in the next turn into account.
PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about this.

The leader of the Feocalvos looks to the southwest, then orders his troops to march in that direction.
[In character]
-Where are we going lord Nuñez?
We're patrolling the western coastline, sergeant.
-But why?
Because I say so, dammit!
-But whats the point, theres just water, water and more salt water.
OKAY OKAY! Its because of the fish. We are looking for a source of advanced fatty acids which is to be used in a top secret mission to develop our brains into hyperadvanced thinking tools.
-But arent our brains hyperadvanced thinking tools?
Er.... I happen to like fish! Is that a crime!? Now stop asking stupid questions and give the orders to move southwest, NOW!

Example: if a city is getting 4 shields and the new WF will make for 5 shields, I believe you can expect 7 shields when the pop. grows.
The only problem is gauging what the computer will decide to assign as the new WF since those shields are counted immediately."The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. Maybe the criteria that the game uses to choose the new tile to be worked by the citizens is the configuration choosen at the "City Governor" screen? (no idea of that, just point a posible explanation)
[Edited to avoid misunderstandings. Worker referenced by its closest city]
Madrid worker: Build road.
Saragosa worker: Since at the present moment the majority of Spanish clan leaders have choosen the option 1, build road.Last edited by OliverFA; February 17, 2003, 12:14."Never trust a man who puts your profit before his own profit." - Grand Nagus Zek, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, episode 11

Señor Astrologix, I'm afraid there is a confusion with the name of the workers.
I will rewrite the orders giving the workers placement, not the names:
Worker next to Madrid: build road.
Worker next to Saragossa: build road.Last edited by OliverFA; February 17, 2003, 12:08."Never trust a man who puts your profit before his own profit." - Grand Nagus Zek, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, episode 11

Notes:
I recently discovered that resources do not need to be capital connected to be used by other cities. Pamplona can produce horsemen. This should hold true with luxuries as well. Once the Santiago is linked via road, Pamplona will have 1 luxury which should help the city grow to a size larger without the need for a temple or for additional garrisons.
OliverFA please give orders for renaming your workers to ease confusion.

A very important discovery was made by the Ferocalvos team this turn. We can see coastal tiles in the west a mere 2 tiles from our coatal tile. This could be an easy jumping route from us to Legoland.
We need to inform Legoland of this finding.
