  • To iron or not to iron

As I continue to receive messages of people who don't seem to be so worried about the war and connecting the iron, I've decided to poll the Spanish people to see if this is the common feeling or just the one of a few very vocal members.

    The options are:

Connect ASAP -- Connect the iron as soon as posible. Don't worry about efficience. I know that they could do be more efficient with some minor delays, but it's a luxury we cannot allow ourselves right now. Either we connect the iron to build our military and discourage ND or we depend on the ND's good will to continue existing.

Connect but not in a hurry -- We must think about connecting the iron, but why so quickly? At the expense of a few turns we can do a better job and increase productivity if we perform a more intelligent plan for the workers to follow in the way to the iron. And it's only a few turns!

Don't worry about the iron -- That people form the north are peace lovers. They won't attack us in ten thousand years.

Ok, vote and also feel free to defend the option you think more apropiate here.

    Not quite that

I have presented Oliverfa 3 Options for getting the Iron connected. They are:

VS is the Visgoth slaves, SW is the Saragossa Worker that is soon to be built. At teh same time, Saragossa is building Walls- Worker-Warrior-Horse-Horse-Horse-Spear-Settler

Option #1 - Gofor Iron ASAP
Move VS to Saragossa #6 and road. Move to Santiago #3 and start road, joined by Saragossa Worker and both move to Santiago #5 and road, then Santiago #15 and road, Then Ironcity #2 and Road, Then the Iron itself and road.

Iron is connected in 1025BC - Saragossa builds it's 2nd Horse in 825BC.

Option #2 - Mine Saragossa #6, then go for the iron.
Move VS to Saragossa #6 and Mine. It's joined by SW and both road and the rest is the same.

Iron is connected in 1000BC - Saragossa builds it's 2nd Horse in 900BC. Compaired to Option #1 - 1 turn later for the Iron, 3 turns earler for the 2nd Horse.

    Option #3 - Mine Saragossa #4 (the Horse) & #6
VS Mines #4, moves to #6 (SW joins it here) and both Mine and road #6, the rest is the same.

Iron is connected in 925BC - Saragossa builds it's 2nd Horse in 950BC and it's 3rd in 750BC. Compaired to Option #1 - 4 turns later for the Iron, 5 turns earlier for the 2nd horse.

As we are worried about ND's Military Capablity, we need to be able to build units much faster. The 3'rd Horse can also be a sword, as the Iron will be connected then and they are the same sheild cost. Option 3 is better overall for Spain, as we have the better overall production output over time. I would rather have that second Horse sooner and wait just a little bit more for the Iron (only 4 turns).

It is important to let our economy have the strenth to produce swordsmen: production growth through mining, but it is a priority to be at least able to upgrade warriors to swordsmen this depends however on the amount of turn it takes to build a barracks anywhere in the kingdom. I suggest builing the road as soon as possible.

I can sleep better at night if I know that Spain is able to get a source of iron so we can defend ourselves against those fearsome Arab swordsmen. If a stack of 5 Arab swordsmen should suddenly appear in front of Madrid, at the very least I would have to send all the young ladies home with their duennas so their families could protect them, and worse, I would likely have to give their money back! Stone axes nowadays, alas, are only good for killing barbarians.

If we can’t defend ourselves, then our lives are dependent upon the whim of foreigners being benevolent or perhaps their bellies being full for a long time after feasting upon Luxia.

Orders came down from Lord Togas to have Pamplona squeeze a Worker in as its next queue after this spearman.... presumably to help get the iron connected more quickly.

So, I guess I'm voting yes , but seriously, I think it is a big priority.

My only question is: How are we planning to coordinate upgrades for our current force of warriors? Money is tight, I know, but which warriors get the go ahead and how do we get them to Madrid ASAP when the iron does finally get connected?

Hmmm, maybe we need a few more warriors built..... An option I had for Saragossa that Togas has just shot down. But he was in a hurry and had to go, so I couldn't go over the specifics

For a nation that is so much looking to get that Iron connected as fast as possible, we are certainly doing it in a very strange manner. The times that I had presented in all of the Options were based on having a worker be the next build in Saragossa.

But as our leader had desided to change that build to a spearman, we won't get that Iron as quick as we would like.

With this in mind, I hearby resign my position as Interum Govenor of Saragossa and the Govenor of Santiago.

I hope you will reconsider, ET. I think we need that worker too, but this is a drastic way of voicing it. Your work is too valuable.

Ok. The dictator can relieve you the duty, though.

                      Well, well...
I think it's most important to connect the Horses right now, and then complete the Pamplona-Madrid trail as we also connects iron. Madrid must be able to build horses or swordsmen and become the centre of the pueblo armada!
