When talking with people from the other nations, always be careful with what information we give away. We will use this thread to keep track of what information is "Classified" and "Declassified", and will update it as often as possible.

Please post to this thread if you have a question about if information is classified or not.

Please have this thread handy when talking with someone to double check to see if you can fully answer their question.

NOTE: In situations where it's believalbe it is preferable to tell the other person that you "Think" or "guess" the answer to their question. Try to only confirm trivial details and never give away too much information to anyone.

    Classified Information:
ANY Military plans we have for how to deal with any nation or situation
The number and composition of our military.
    Where are military units are.
Defenses in any of our cities.
    What our cities are building.
    What resources we are missing.
What Wonder of the World we are ULTIMATELY building (permissible to discuss what we are currently building, which may or may not be a placeholder)
Where we plan to build our next city.
The details of our unsettled land to the south-west.
    How much money we have.
Who we want to win in any foreign conflict.
ANY details or conversations that any ambassador or individual proclaims that should be kept Confidential.
The results of our Intelligence Anaylsis.

    Declassified Information:
That we have a non-Agg pact with Neu Dem & GoW
That we have contact with Vox, GoW, ND
Who holds what positions in our government
That we claim all of Cow Valley as Spain.

This might sound like a stupid question...
but why is it not allowed to talk about E_T having PTW ?
(btw: the other rules are fair enough)

Gives us an unfair advantage. So far nobody outside of us know that ET (who does tons and tons of number crunching in the SPDG) has PtW, and is doing some number crunching for us.

Allright... so he is a number cruncher. Good for us, but it doesn't matter much to anyone else than us really.
Not a big deal thingy, but I will keep it a secret anyhow.

Mainly, because I had requested that it not be revealed for now. With the ISDG starting to spin up, I will have to bring this to the for front, but in the meantime, it's classified.

            OpSec

When I was in the US Air Force, I learned about a thing called OpSec (Operations Security). Basically, about the ability to figure out what the other side is doing from a lot of little bits of information. This is akin to working on a very complex Jigsaw Puzzle (if you don't know what a jigsaw puzzle is, go here: http://www.jigzone.com/), but without the completed picture to guide you. THe Information that you receive (or give) is like being handed one peice at a time and sometimes, the peice is part of an entirely different puzzle.

With communication between several people, it's hard to keep information from actually being given. This is just something that really can't be helped, but it can be reduced. The key is to remember that you are going to give out information, it's just that you want to make sure what information is given. Lying and denigning something can be just as revieling as just giving that information out straight.

The real key is to sometime give them too much infomation. The fact thay we are Roleplayers helps us, as we can work with our Persona's and feed them a lot of BS to sift through. As Arnelos calls it, the signal to noise ratio, and the more noise that is present, the less chance of them getting any vital infoarmation from us.

But it's also important to also remember, that they are doing the same thing. Some will hide it in boasting and beligerance (GF) and some will hide it in Sillyness and witiness (Trip). But they will hide it in some form. The thing is to be able to filter out that noise, and then being able to evaluate the information that is presented. If, lets say, a person had a private conversation with GF for 2 hours, you might get 1 true peice of Information and maybe a couple of 1/2 truths. Then again, everything might be just BS, you can't say for sure. And until that information is verified in some manner, it can not be taken as gospel.

So, the best thing to do, when talking to a member of a foreign team, is that they are looking to get as much information as possible. They want to be your freind. They will simpathize with your situation. They will listen and talk and maybe, even cultivate sympathy from you, the better for you to possibly open up to them. The KGB used that for years and it worked very well.

So, keep that in mind at all times when chatting with them. Do not try to turn that against them, for that is also a trap. Just be freindly and do a bit of Roleplay, but becareful with that part too.

Yeah, it's the kinda thing I have been doing mostly.
Thanks to this classification thread, we will all know what is unheard of.
Anyway, quite useful this OpSec concept.

The way my father phrased it to me was that intelligence gathering was like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle without the picture where many of the pieces were missing and a lot of the pieces you had belonged to the wrong puzzle.

This game feels a lot like that...

Classification of me having the PTW game is now lifted, as I have announced having it.

The fact that I have had it for a while is still classified. So please remember that I have just gotten it, if anyone asks.

Pending Togas' approval, could we please classify the fact that we aren't talking about "military maneuvers" in the forums? If Ghengis asks, RPers should either inform him that they've been "skipping that thread" or that it's being "discussed in the forums" at this time. For full reasoning and more specific ideas about what to say, please check out this post.

                    Thanks.

I agree with adaMada. This info is classified provisonally until Great Lord Togas is able to check it himself and make the final decission about that.

Military information is strictly classified. The proposal that adaMada is talking about is an interesting idea that I will post further on in a separate thread.

The fact that we have GoW's WM is classified.
