Either they had a very good second city site with strategic/luxury resources they wanted to secure or perhaps they did build it in their original city. If the later it could be to allow the city to be larger and more productive either for units or Wonders.

    Cultural victory.

I know it sounds blah, but lets think about this for a sec.
No one is ever going to win a Diplomatic victory. Out of the question
Historygraph. If the other sites notice that we are winning via historygraph and the end of the game is approaching, we will get pummeled.
Military. I'm not sure about you guys, but with my experience in MP, I have only seen one victory via military (it was an unexpected lesson in the Jag rush). Anytime one team gets an edge, others will come to help so the game stays on an even footing. Military will require massive amounts of troops in MP. All teams military might will be watched closely by everyone and balanced by everyone. If one team gets to large, guess what will happen.

Culture. First civ to 100,000 culture points. How is your culture watched by other teams? They look at the historygraph culture section. They will see a signifacant rize in culture, but will have no idea when a team will get to 100,000. It will just happen one turn and everyone will get the message "You have acheived a Cultural Victory".
Game over. We win. And nobody sees it comming.

With this in mind, I would say we go for any civ that has Rel or Sci. Maybe even one that has both so we get cheap temples, Cathedrals, Libraries and universities.
Is there a relation here? Or just a coincidence?

Maybe they are trying to throw out inconsistencies to confuse their position and take the edge off their stated purpose in this game.

I think they are dedicated to this great experiment of theirs even if it fails, but I think he rights about certain victory conditions being more difficult than others.

I don't think that that is universal, however. This is only one game and a very young one at that. The only reason that certain victories are not attainable, that I can see, would be because a majority of the teams would not entertain them.

I, personally, would love to see a Conquest victory from our team

Diplo Victory -- someone always wins. That's the beauty of it. If you choose to "call a vote" someone wins the game right then and there. If we, for example, call the vote, the other teams have to pick SOMEONE ... we just have to make sure they have reason NOT to pick the other guys.

btw, I think GoW is pop-rushing temples to expand their borders to get access to resources or luxes. I seriously doubt they'd ever try for a cultural win. Cultural wins are next to impossible to get through normal play, you really have to TRY for it the whole game by building lots and lots of cities and pointless improvements and spending loads of cash supporting them.

          Aggie? GF? UBER????

If there is one thing that I have learned from these guys is that their strategies are acutely tuned to WARFARE. Aggie was my SMC long before reaching the lofty goal of President, and a damned able one he was too. GF has that confrontational style, although he can surprise me, and frequently. Uber? Well let's just say the guy would be happiest bathing in the blood of his enemies.

Whatever they are doing now, they will be out for deathdealing. Maybe they will wait until Cavalry, but we must not let ourselves be confused.
