  • Internal PBEM games

The current state of the internal PBEM games is sad:

-Game #1 stalled due to technical difficulties for Aidun

-Game #2 seems to be doing okay, but I'm not sure how quickly it is progressing.

-Game #3 has too many players and is crawling.

I suggest we scrap these (at least #1 and #3) and come up with more workable games. Keep players to 2-4, preferably 3. Match players from same or similar time zones.

Game #2 is currently at 2070BC and making excellent progress because the 4 players (E_T, Arnelos, Ninot, myself) often find ourself online together for several hours at a time and rapidly toss the save around.

I agree that these smaller games are to be prefered to the larger ones. I think we will learn a whole lot more about the different civs and their abilities by playing lots of small, shorter games, as opposed to playing larger ones.

And hopefully we can post what we've learned and share it with the team afterwards.

E_T and I played an internet game the other night (Friday?). It went very fast and we almost had entered the Middle Ages within only a few hours.

Such games can easily be loaded when the same set of players get back together and the host has a savegame.

I suggest that we utilize this, though such games have an admittedly different character to pbem games.

It wouldn't be too bad to have 2-4 human players play such internet games together with AI or have as many as 6-8 human players (if they can all get together at the same time ) play such a game with just human players.

Game #3 just started and we are doing about 1 turn a day, so that one can still be played, IMHO.

I can also play some other games, but am sometimes limited in time. THat's why the PBEM games are much better for me (and I imagine a few others). So what if for the first 30 or so turns, you mostly hitting end turn, as long as the game still continues...

Game #3 was working well until today.

For some unknown reasons I didn't receive today morning (I am GMT+1) the save from Togas.

          But I think it's playable.

Unfortunately and generally, I don't have time for chats, nor for MP games on-line.

I have the time to play the net games in Switzerland, but I don't think I will have that time when I come back to Spain. Anyway, it's not the same to drop by the forums from time to time while working at the lab than sit down to play a full TCP/IP game. I'm sure that the people here would not like it!

I agree with E_T and Astrologix, the game is taking so few time that we can go on with it and at the same time any other iniciatives.
