  • How to extend the Spanish power ?

    Olá compadre!

I call upon all of you fine Señores to see what your opinion is.
This regards the future of Spain... We need to discuss the above issues with our great despot, cause I know he is a reasonable man and listens to his noble followers.

    Previous survey report.
    1. Settle our good spots, but accept competition: 7votes 50.00%
    2. Settle our good spots, and threaten whoever approaches them: 7votes 50.00%

So... its obvious that our despot might side with one of two factions of his people on this issue, so what is his decision?

i dont know who the 4 people who voted rexing are. But i voted moderate

GoW are still pushing forward. we dont know what to expect. its better we have good defense once they come with more forces. Of course tho, it'd be better if we had the cities and production to go along with that.

I voted for ... more workers based on the following argument :

The connection of the four cities (and one luxury) that we already have requires the roading of 10 tiles (7 flat, 2 forest and one mountain) representing 50 turns for 1 worker; the work would be completed in 775 BC (Turn 90).

With 2 workers, completed in 1400 BC Turn 65
With 3 workers, completed in 1600 BC Turn 57
With 4 workers, completed in 1700 BC Turn 53
With 5 workers, completed in 1790 BC Turn 50

That is WITHOUT connecting additional cities nor making any other land improvment.

We are late, and we should give the highest priority to the production of workers. Building more cities not connected will just increased the magnitude of the problem.
        Statistical anomaly.

I think building a line of cites from Pamplona to the western coast and garrisoning them would be the better plan.

Then we can settle the lands to the south. Even if the other teams use boats they will not be able to reinforce and support the area with the speed that will be able to.

This would allow the border cities to increase in size and cultural strength to act as a bulwark against foreign cultural borders.

Somewhere between "balanced" and "land". The plans that E_T, Togas, and I ironed out last night should do that for us.

            Madrid's Current Plan:

            - Temple (in 5 turns)
            - Worker (in 7 turns)
            - Spearman (in 11 turns)
            - Spearman (in 15 turns)
            - Settler (in 20 turns) - will go to city site #6
            - Spearman (in 24 turns)
            - Settler (in 29 turns) - will go to city site #8

            INFORMATION UNDER THIS PLAN:
            - Experienced NO turns of unrest trouble under this plan
            - Spearman+Settler cycle is 8-9 turns
            - Builds Regular Units
            - Made 207 trade over 30 turns
            - Spent 24 gold in taxes over 30 turns
            - Net Income 183 over 30 turns (higher than other plans)

Note that the spearman completed 11 and 15 turns from now CAN be swapped out for a barracks instead. We plan to come back and debate that in a few turns since we still have time to make that decision

For Pamplona, you can check out ruby_maser's thread.

In general, however, the plan is that Barcelona should produce 3 settler/spear combos over the same time period. Those will build at city sites #2 (horses), #3 (silks?), and #9 (gems), followed by #1 (iron) shortly thereafter. (or a different plan... it's flexible).

Barcelona will be something of a worker/military unit factory for now.

~30 turns from now, we should have:

~8 cities (the settler for city #8 should be en route)
~5 workers? (depends on Barcelona's ability to pump them out, I honestly don't know)
            - All cities defended and have a number of extra warriors and perhaps even a spearman to run around. (depends on whether we build that barracks or build 2 regular spearmen in Madrid).

Our northern border will be secure by then, with cities founded at sites #2, #3, #6, and #8 (our northern border cities, all of which will need to build city walls).

We should be in fairly good shape.

Hmmmm, are we perhaps too considered about border security and infrastructure, cause of silly intimitation plotting by GoW ??!
So worried, that we misses early opportunies in the great settlement plan we had? (the one with all the numbered #sites)

Anyway, establishing a border north of Madrid will soon prove to be a great idea. (before foreigners dig in there and its too late for us)

I think Madrid can build its temple, while all the other cities focus on new settlers. What about it?
