  • Our First Settlement

I have picked Senor Ruby-Maser to lead our people across the Great Spanish Mountains to form our first new city.

This thread shall be used to discuss the exact locatin of that city, what work needs to be done on the city, and what path the settlers should take.

Indeed, Señor Ruber_Maser and I must begin selecting which families will remain with me in Madrid and which families will travel with Señor Ruber_Maser to the new settlement...

Perhaps familes can begin to volunteer for the travel or to stay in Madrid (and Ruby_Maser and I can work things out of there are too many in one or the other).

Sorry, I didn't saw this thread before posting at the other one.

As I already said, I believe that the valley discovered at the north-west after the mountains is the best location for our new city.

I feel that our family would prefer to stay in Madrid, but at the same time we are likely to have business to attend at the new city. Specially when planning the improve of the lands around it. Probably some other families will also have to travel between the two cities. So I think that a big and fiable road between both cities would be the best solution.

I recommend we choose the fastest and fittest people in each family. After all, they not only have to climb up and down a mountain, but have to run to the site as fast as they can before any barbarians notice them.

The *fattest* people can stay in Madrid, and make it appear as if we have twice the people we really do. And so should the sexiest people, because we need more children quickly. Or perhaps that should be the most fertile people. Is sexy = fertile? Good thing it’s the city lords who have to worry about this and not me.

I am sending many of my cousins and extended family to settle the new city. My immediate family will remain here with me in Madrid, but those freeloading brothers, cousins and in-laws ... well ... I'm sending them to the Cow Valley so I can keep them out of my hair.

My aunt Joaquína wishes to inform you that many of the girls at the Esmeralda Pikesfan School of Etiquette will be suitable to go with the settlers to the new city. Of course, they will likely be the lower half of the class: those who know etiquette, but not well enough to marry into the uppermost ruling classes of Madrid, who are staying behind. They will help civilize the wild Cow Valley.

I, jdjdjd jdjdjd II and my young brother, Francisco Pizarro jdjdjd will join the group heading to the new city. We have nothing to lose and we understand that the lower class of the School of Etiquette have the biggest ... well, you know.

Aunt Joaquína has a saying, “The bigger the girls, the harder it is to teach etiquette.” The big girls tend to attract the boys, and as Aunt Joaquína says, “Boys and etiquette don’t mix, unless they’ve gone to warrior school.” She also says, “A heavy axe presses the rambunctiousness away.”

I think this thread a degenerated a bit..... but what do you expect with a bunch of RP'ers.........

I think we should settle on the un-shielded grassland next to the river, and get the two cows at once.

Lets send the worker over there directly, stop working on the hill, and have it road adn mine the cows.

                      Senor Ruby_Maser,

Please lead the band of settlers to the spot which you feel would be the best to start our 2nd city.

Will it be the shielded tile directly east of the cows? Or will it be the unshielded tile directly west of the gold? Both locations are 4 day's travel away from Madrid.

                        oops, forgot....

                        see this

Nice map by Señor Eta Tamale.

                        my opinion is there.

Which coincides with what Our Grand Leader has listed above. My preference the west of gold, southwest of the 1 on ETs map.

I like to call it Krakatoa, East of Java. Well, not really.

We had discussed the issues of defense and the closeness of the Cities to each other. If we have it 1 tile firther SW, it will be further away from Madridm for the movement of our Military.

Closeness to Madrid is important for security reasons and for rapid response in case of an emergency. Each of the sites are equal without roads and are virtually equa-distant with roads. This will only change after Engineering...

If we build it one tile SW of the original proposed location, and have roads in place, it will take two turns to reach Pampalona from Madrid at either site.

Site A (built on shielded tile): Move unit from Madrid NW, then W and end turn due to crossing the river. Next turn move West twice to arrive in city. One extra move to Fortify.

Site B (built SW of site A): Move unit from Madrid NW, then W, end turn due to river. Move unit W, W, SW and arrive in city.

OK. With roads, assuming we seek to road only one MT tile, would slow us into the city by one turn, but a fortification would occur at the same time. Without roads, see Togas explanation above.

We would gain two addl shield should we build a mine in proposed site 1, if we build city in proposed site 2.

But, the proposed site 2 does create greater overlap with a proposed site for city 6.

Of course, proposed site 2 has an additional benefit of instant use of both cows to crank up its population faster. Site 1 needs to wait until it expands culture borders once.

In any event, if decision is left to Señor ruby_master, I'm sure he will make an excellent choice.
