TEG will move East along the ridges of the Great Spanish Mountains in the north easternly direction to see what other lands surround Madrid.

Yes. If a warrior will be produced next turn, change to settler.
    [RP]

In the year 3500BC, the great city of Madrid grew to 30,000 citizens and expanded its boundaries. To feed the new citizenry, Lord Togas commanded that city workers make use of the newly irrigated wheat plains now within grasp of the city. With the wheat field and cattle plains, Madrid should grow again in around 250 (5 turns) years.

Forseeing this rapid growth, Lord Togas created the Family Edict long ago, and there will be sufficient sons and daughters of Madrid's founders in 400 (8 turns) years to have them found another city of España.

The patrols of our expanded boundaries discovered a lost tribe of Magyars. Having heard what happened to the Visigoth tribe, they did not fight, but rather offered their warriors in service to us, and even showed us a treasure trove of Silks in the forest south of their encampment. Very sensible of them. After a quick communique with Lord Togas, we sent the Magyar Warriors southwest through the hills to explore the land. Who knows what other marvels might be found?

Obviously feeling that exploration was going well, Lord Togas sent the city garrison out north east of Madrid, naming them the Madrid Expedition. Finally, our leader sent word to The Explorer's Guild that they should head west, seeking a way through the jungle to reach the valley they discovered earlier.

Governor Ninot will be pleased to know that the Visigoth slaves have completed the irrigation of the wheat fields, and have commenced building a road through the fields, so that they may be travelled more quickly.

F11 : We are still first in 8 of 13 demographics, and have gained ground in others (production). Four cities (including Madrid) show at size 2 now. Glory of War and Neu Demogyptica have renamed their capitals, again.

See the Turn Index thread for screenshots and the save, but please keep turn discussion in here.

just as clarification to Señor Dejon's good work, we will actually get the settlers in 6 turns. This is partly do to the fact that we will grow again in five turns and also because strange magic is working to give us a 2-shield bonus to our queue each turn on which we achieve city growth (i.e. pop. 1 to pop. 2 as just happened).

Thanks ruby_maser, thats great. Madrid will only be size 3 for one turn then, before we kick the spawn of our loins out of the city.

At Regent, Overpopulation unhappiness starts at 3, so we'll need a garrison unit to keep the peace for that one turn until the settler is built.

Edit: So the Madrid Expedition will have to return to the city in 4 turns.

we can always up the entertainment slider briefly. I ran through a scenario where we did not have unhappiness at size 3, but I cannot remember whether I had a unit garrisoned. I will rerun that game tonight and let you know.

I agree with ruby - lets up the slider for the one turn we need it until the settler is born. That way we won't tie up our workers as an entertainer, and our explorers can get out there and see the world.

Agreed. We can afford the loss of 1g or so a turn to keep Madrid happy for a couple turns.

Sorry, got that mixed up. But I was right about Regent. From the Civilopedia, number of content citizens before overpopulation unhappiness:

                        4 Chieften
                        3 Warlord
                        2 Regent
                        2 Monarch
                        1 Emporer
                        1 Diety

Okay. We must remember to change the slider the turn before Madrid grows to size three.

Can we build a road on the hill NW of Madrid, then on the square NW of that, then on the Mountain NW of that? That way when we build the settler it will go a little faster to City #2.

We could build City #4 on the Forest square SE of the Forest Silks. That way we have a port, and there will be no overlapping with Madrid.

I wish that in the grid map view they showed the work area of your cities outlined in white.
