The Explorer's Guild continues to follow the mountains towards the north, our worker labors on, and our 2nd warrior team retreats to Madrid just in case the neighboring villagers send barbarians to attack us.

Drat! Yahoo Geocities is onto me. They're not allowing the images I post there to be viewed by outside sources because they believe that I'm simply using their site as a storage place for outside purposes.

Which is what I am doing, but I'm surprised the b*stards figured it out so easily.

Suggestions? Do I need to find another free host site? Do I need to just make a freakin' web page (and hope that none of the other teams surfs there accidentally? Or do I have to start sending all of my jpg images to Dejon to post for me?

Your screenshots don't come up right away, but work fine if I simply put my cursor in the location bar and then press enter. Very odd, and obviously annoying. Maybe they check the HTTP_REFERRER on the way in, because it works when hitting them direct (not through a link).

We've slipped to 5th in production - they likely all built mines.

my order for Madrid is to keep production on warrior untill that hut pops

if the hut is good, switch to settler if possible

if hut is bad, finish warrior

From some stuff I was reading about the demographics, production is figured as the total of all commerce, food, and shields produced by your cities minus the food consumed that turn. We are at 9... (3 shields + (4 food - 2 consumed) + 4 commerce = 9)

We essentially already have mines since the cow and the forest+game provide the same as despot-era mined hills. With most other civs still at size one like us, I think we are likely tied at 3 shield for most civs. Legoland may be getting more though.

I think they just edged us out in other areas. They may be focusing on commerce and building up their treasuries or be by rivers that they've managed to road. They don't have more food or they would be growing faster than us, and I don't think despotism allows any tiles to produce more than 2 shields or we could have mined the cow.

What's the plan for the next city? Cows, silk, or somewhere else?

IMO the URL is WAAAAAAY too obvious. I could've guessed it after a couple of tries, if I knew you were using geocities. Eh, but ya can't complain. I can post on my website...

and oh yeah, Señor Dejon, they probably do check the http-referer altho mines worked on first try...

I would suggest City #2 be built on the tile NW of Gold Mountain and E of the Hither Cow. (i.e. the Nearer Cow). That way our cities are near each other, our territory is compact, and we can fit more cities in Cow Valley (has anyone noticed the river beyond the Cows?).

City #3 could be built SE of the Silk Jungle. Again that would allow for room to expand and a compact, easily defended realm.

I agree with your #2 site suggestion, however I prefer directly W of the Silk for #3 - no overlaps that way.
