  • Official Edicts

DO NOT POST in this thread unless you have an official edict to make and you are an official of my government.

With the founding of Madrid, our capital city, completed, I hereby hand over control of the city's production and citizens to it's governor. I expect that he will encourage growth and ensure that the citizenry remains content.

I instruct our wisemen to focus our efforts towards gaining more knowledge. We will put 70% of our efforts towards this cause. This amount may change in time, so long as my treasury continues to collect coins. I will accept counsel from my High Priest and from the wisest of our tribe on this matter.

The first order of production will be to fund a group of warriors/explorers from the newly founded explorer's guild to begin exploring the lands around us. Two such warriors will be built for this purpose, and I instruct Ninot to see to it that they are built before anything else

I instruct our slavemaster to begin irrigating both the cattle and then the grain territories outside of Madrid. Roads must also be built. The order of such construction will be determined by him.

    More official edicts will follow.

I hereby proclaim that this new city, Madrid, will be the center of our civilization. It will be the first of many cities. Our people shall multiply and go forth to create new cities, and as our numbers grow so will our might.

Under my family's reign the Spanish shall multiply and fill the Earth with great cities.

Therefore, I command that if any man dies and leaves a wife behind, that she be taken by the brother or another man in the family as his wife. There shall be no limit to the number of wives a man may have so long as he can support them all and his children.

As Madrid becomes too crowded we will send forth the dissatisfied and displaced citizens to found other cities. I will appoint a leader of this group. He shall lead them to found a new city and he shall govern over that new city.

This is the Word of Togas and it shall be done.

      Justice

In all matters, our Spanish traditions and honor shall be followed. Should someone offend the honor of another, they shall settle the dispute in any mannor of their choosing.

If the dispute cannot be settled by the two, the dispute may be brought before me, however false accusations or paltry disputes will not sit well with me.

If there is a violation of our religious customs, burial rites, spiritual affairs, or suspicion of posession or blashpemy, our High Priest has FULL AUTHORITY to handle all such matters.

If there is a violation of the law of any city, the city's governor has FULL AUTHORITY to punish those who have broken the law in his city.

If there is suspicion of treason or actions in violation of my edicts, The Watcher has FULL AUTHORITY to handle any such individuals, and to fully investigate such matters. If evidence surfaces, The Watcher shall present such evidence to me and I will be the judge of the accused innocence or guilty. All who are found guilty of treason will be punished by a painful, creative, and public execution. Those who are found guilty of violations of my edicts may be subject to death or other lesser punishments.

This is the Word of Togas and it shall be done.

        Order in Our Nation

All matters that have not been clearly delegated to my advisors are to be brought to me, however, if I am away from the city tending to the army, the frontier, my family's extensive ranch, or other business and there is a matter of extreme urgency, my Most Trusted Advisor shall handle the situation for me.

Should he not be present, the matter shall be handled by one of the following, in this order of importance:

        The High Priest
        My Cheif Warrior
        My Cheif Architect
        The Governor of Madrid
        The Watcher
        My Slave Master
        My Royal Chamber Pot Cleaner
the Casting of Lots to see who the Spirits Favor

I hereby name Senor Dejon as my Cheif Warrior. He shall oversee the army as it is assembled and as it goes forth to smite what remains of the Visigoth tribe our fathers have vanquished.

I shall name a Cheif Architect soon. I am still considering who amongst the tribe excells the most in construction.

This is the Word of Togas and it shall be done.

          Orders for the slaves

I, the Slave Master of the Great Spanish city, inform that I'm elaborating a detailed plan about how to improve the lands nearby the village of Madrid. I told my personal assistant to book a meeting with the Capital Governor Ninot, but he is not an slave but a free man, and left the office after the sunset. He promised me he will do the administrative work this morning. I'm sure that if he loves life he will do.

At this moment we don't know if the lands can be irrigated or not. So IF the lands can be irrigated then the slaves should irrigate them and later build a road. If they cannot be irrigated, then they should start immediately with the road.

My assistant died suddenly, so I'm looking for a new one to arrange a meeting with the Governor. I will put a more detailed plan after consulting with Ninot.

            Warrior Training

In accordance with the Word of Togas, I will begin training our young warriors. They will be trained in the rudimentary skills of attack and defense with the most powerful of weapons – the stone axe. Each warrior will be trained by myself or my sons, until they stand a fair chance of victory in open combat with their peers. That will be enough for now, but in the future I will be petitioning the Governor of Madrid, Señor Ninot, and the Chief Architect to devise and build lodgings for our warriors in training. Only once I have freed the warriors from having to walk to their homes every day, and kept them amongst their peers, will I be able to thoroughly train our forces to the point where they will vanquish any similar foe in combat.

To start, the volunteers identified by The Explorer's Guild will take first priority in training, followed by the first sons of every family of Spain. With the Family Edict issued by Lord Togas, no family should have a lack of sons to offer to the service of Spain.

Very shortly I will be clearing a Training Ground for the warrior training. I request the TEG volunteers to each make their appearance for training there within the next two days. The sons of Spain may come at any time, but remember that TEG recruits will take precedence for the meantime.

Lastly, I would thank our fearless leader, Señor Togas, for entrusting me with this position of responsibility. I shall serve with my whole spirit. I have already begun transferring the daily responsibilities of the Master Weapon Shop to my second eldest son, Dijon. My first eldest son, Poupon, will assist me with the warrior training, and accompany the TEG volunteers on their first expedition.

              Titles & Vocations

I hereby command that all members of this tribe shall choose a title and/or vacation by (December 7th). Your title and/or vocation can be anything from simple adventurer, drunk, explorer, merchant, tradesman, priest, prophet, chamber pot cleaner, ambassador, etc. Your title and/or vocation may change as your characters change or as the story around us changes.

These titles will be collected by Arnelos and put into the common thread. We may also make these titles public to the players in other teams. Furthermore, these titles give us something extra to roleplay.

This is the Word of Togas and it shall be done.

                Naming a Deputy Slave Master

[OOC] I think this is the right thread to do it. If not please excuse me [/OOC]

I, Señor Oliverius Fernandez of the Fernandez family, Slave Master of the great Togas and the Spanish civilization, am anuncing the naming of my second in command.

From now on, and as long as our great leader agrees with it and doesn't need his services at another duties, I am naming Señor ruby_maser as my assistant. I also change the name of the position to Deputy Slave Master.

ruby_maser has showed an uncommon clear vision to predict how the slaves work will develop, he is well known for his studies about timing which have an amusing and very acurate precision. I am convinced that his skills will benefit the spanish public works to a degree not known before.

I have now found a suitable person to serve as our Chief Arcitect. That individual is Astronicus (Astrologix).

His job will be to oversee the contruction of large wonders and great projects, and should we have more than one city at some point in our future, he shall be able to override governors of those cities to prioritize building projects in the interest of what is best for Spain.

For now, however, he will work on my future place. I have grown tired of this simple cave. I'd like to see some plans created to build a much greater structure as my home.

This is the Word of Togas and it shall be done.

Orders for the slaves up to 3500 BC

I, Oliverius Fernandez IV, Slave Master of Great Togas, Supreme Leader of the Spanish empire, proclaim what the orders for the slaves should be up to the year 3500 BC.

The slaves will go directly to the wheat lands after finishing their current work (using the just builded road to speed up the journey by 50 years) and irrigate them. We will provide more orders of what to do after this work is done.

I give this plan my official signature in Madrid, December 6th 3886 BC

I hereby proclaim that the Governor of a City shall be Lord of that City and shall answer only to me and my cheif advisors about the affairs of that city.

The Governor may make his own laws related to affairs in his city. He shall control the workforce and determine what structures shall be built in his city.

The Governor shall, of course, make no law or decision that is contrary to any decision made by the Despot.

All disputes and conflicts that occur within the city shall first be brought before the Governor to resolve. I shall only hear disputes that arise outside of the city gates.

The Governor may ask that a dispute be heard by me if he feels that he is not in a position to resolve it.

The Governor may pass any sentance upon a transgressor of his rules, however, any sentance of death, extraorinary torture, or loss of more than half of a man's property must be approved by me.

Let it be known that I am now too tired to fully tend to my duties as your despot. I have aged well, and life in the hills of Spain has been good for my health and my families' health. At the conclusion of the Waterfall Festival I will hand over control of Spain to my son, Enero Togas.

He will continue to serve our nation admirably.

However, I expect that our governor, cheif warrior, slave master, chief architect, High Priest, ambassadors, and Most Trusted Advisor will serve him well to give him valueable instruction in his early years as your leader until he grows and matures into the ideal leader for our people

                        --Togas

OOC: Ignore the fact that Togas is more than 200+ years ... we should make it an unstated policy that our BC characters are like those old character from the Bible who lived hundred of years.

                          Edict from the Priesthood

In order to make official the policy of the Iberian Priesthood for the last several hundred years, I will now announce that from now on, any worship of any 'gods' or other beings other tahn spirits is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, upon penalty of death by burning. If anyone should survive this, their hearts are to be cut out with a silver knife and their corpses are to be burned and enchanted to drive out the demon possessing them.

In keeping with Señor Oliverfa's wishes concerning the slaves (and just to clarify since we are moving so fast ), the slaves are to road the wheat bonus as soon as irrigation is complete.

Furthermore, they are to continue their roading back to our great city of Madrid through the hills to the NW of the city. (This will eventually provide the city with hills to mine that include the Rio Tajo's revenue bonus, and may serve as a platform to crossing the river to access the grassland bonus to the west... which would also start the roading process toward the new valley to our west through the narrowest point in the mountains.)

Eventually, as soon as possible provided a larger slave labor force and w/ Governor Ninot's approval , there has been talk of chopping down the forest that currently prevents us from providing irrigation to the cow pastures.
