Irrigate beefy plainland first, then build a silvermine perhaps?

    [ooc]
In the start, when operating smaller towns, it's wise to often
switch from growth to prod, and vice versa.
So having one great prod-sqr and one great food-sqr
    is the best REX procedure.

Then we can spawn new settlers in the optimal rate,
    by setting the turns-to-complete-settler ~ turns-to-growth
    to equal or near...

We shouldn't be hurting for production early on. The forest bonus tile offers 2 shields and the cow tile will offer 2 shields even if it is irrigated. Thats like having 2 hills mined without all the backbreaking labor involved in roading/mining them or the loss of food bails. We are in a very production-friendly starting location

I have no idea what our esteemed Slave Master intends once the borders expand, though. The wheat bonus represents faster growth but a tradeoff with no shields. A study is in order I think.

Unfortunately we cannot post screenshots or other attachments in the forum at this time. Luckily, Dejon has posted screenshots on his own web space and given us links in this thread

I advise all of you to take a look at these initial images of our first city. I have received a copy of the save. There's not much to it, but if you'd like to view it, follow the special instructions NYE posted in the main forum and send me a PM with your email address. I'll send it out to anyone who makes the request.

Back to Madrid: We CAN irrigate the cattle square that our worker is presently in, and I believe we should do that first. I am anxious to see if my Slave Master and if the Governor of Madrid both agree. It is very clear that our city's initial production is high thanks to the hilly location and the forest (with game) nearby. Mines will be created soon, but irigation is the most important for growth.

Well, I'm glad to hear that recommendation. However, I will reiterate that, if the irrigation comes before the roading of the cow bonus and we switch to work it once irrigation has been completed, we get a population increase in 9 turns instead of 10.

Its not much, but thats a jump on others who won't get that opportunity. And the 4 turns of revenue lost due to roading second is more than made up by our proximity to the river; we already have revenue from the forest +game tile.

Very good. It is a sound decision. Only with irrigation can our cities thrive.

                Could someone please explain?

                  posting screenshots

[OOC] you can post the Jpg pictures by having them in your FTP space and then using the [*IMG]http://address of picture[/*IMG] (without the *) and they will show right here in the Forum. That way, you aren't limited to the 600x600 pixel limit that Poly has for regular attachments.

You also don't have to deal with extra pop-up adds that are part of going to an outside link.

                  This is an example:

Shall our High Priest correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it means "Before Cataclism". It is obviously counting the years left after the world ends and we gather with the spirits of all our ancestors at the celestial land.

Indeed. Upon the year of 0 BC, the stars, sun, and moon shall go out, the sea will boil, rivers will evaporate, blood will rain from the skies, and the earth itself will rend and be destroyed as the spirits of evil at last break through into our world and steal the souls of any not protected by the good spirits. Those who are not taken will then all die, and go on into the afterlife. The world will then be created anew, and another cycle of existence will begin.

Thanks for the tip, E_T. Those shots I took are 1024x768 - should I reduce them for posts, and if so, what size?

[OOC]the stuff that I've posted on the SP DG have been from 700 to 900 pixels in width. I proportion the height to be along with the width, that way it looks better. A screen shot is 1152x748 (I think - thereabout anyways) W/H ratio of 1.54. The picures that I had posted recently in the SP game were attachments (max 600x600), so I divided 600 by 1.54 to get the height of 390. They look sqashed, but they look like what you would see on your screen. Make sure you compress the pictures as much as you can without getting a lot of artifacts that will distort your image. You can run our of FTP space really fast if you don't.

I normally set the width to what I can easily read with my tired eyes and still be small enough to see and try to keep from having to scroll right & left. Of course, I have a 19" monitor and I run at 1152x864 resolution on that monitor.

The nice thing about this method is that you can change the image in your FTP space and it will change as soon as you reload here. So you can make changes quickly.

0 BC sounds marvellous. Except that I think it entails the end of the squid business forever.
