  • [OOC] change our NAME?!!?!

    Here is a small proposition

as we are the great RP team, what better way can we RP our civ than to rename ourselves.

i ask, in a pre-poll discussion... who here thinks changing our team name to Spain (or something that varries according to age) is a good idea, and who prefers we keep the descriptive, but out-of-character RP team name?

I prefer being called the roleplay-team. So we don't have to change our name whenever a new PtWDG is created. It's also pretty obvious we are Spain, so no need to change the name.

Or we could change every turn to mislead our opponents.

I believe it's Out Of Character. All those abbreviations are always very confusing for people who haven't seen them before. Is there a list of abbreviations used in these forums somewhere?

I thought about this today, starting with the premise that each team will be a permanent team, with multiple games played in the future. Thus the Glory of War team can be many civs, but each time is about the "Glory of War". Every time, I reached the point where I thought "we need a team name that describes what we are about" - we are the Roleplay team. My reasoning was perfectly circular and thus the Roleplay team seems to fit perfectly.

              MWIA,

Glory of war describes a strategic attitude (as Lux Invicta, Gathering Storm and Legoland); Roleplay describes an attitude without any effect on the way we play the game, so it cannot be compared. As for Vox Controli, it is a pure fantasy name calling nothing to mind, at least for me.
Also, Roleplay is not a fantasy name (The Civ Gamers Team would not be either) and can be claimed by other teams.
All that makes our name the most ambiguous, and as you know, leaving ambiguity is always detrimental.

In other words, I agree with you !

there is a list of abreaviations, but i don;t remember where they are in the forums... they were on a topped thread, and I would look under the civ 3 forum first, but I have not looked for them for a while... several months at least.

Sorry I couldn't be much more usefull than that. Server is acting kinda slow so I don't want to go searching for it.

Vox Controlli is apparently Latin for voice of the controller or something like that (according to Jon Miller and some other members of their team). Their idea with the Vox Controlli name is that they intend to practice something along the lines of a Rousseau-"Social Contract"-inspired fascism where "Der Fuhrer" (or whatever name they decide to give him...) is not only the sole voice of the people, but solely, within his person, physically and spiritually represents the whole of the people. Very Rousseau-esque, if I may say so...
