    The following Wonders could cause an early and undesired GA:
    Colossus = Commercial, Expansionist, Religious.
    Great Lighthouse = Expansionist & Commercial
    Oracle = Religious
    Pyramids = Religious & Industrious
    J.S. Bachs & Sistine = Religious

    I ran into the same problem with my test games. However, I PURPOSELY have been trying to ALWAYS be the one to build the Sistine Chapel. A Golden Age timed to the completion of the Sistine Chapel is actually VERY GOOD for Spain and the chapel, as a wonder we control, making our religious trait that much more valuable (those cheap cathedrals are now twice as effective!!!).

    In my games as Spain, I too have had to skip great early wonders I would normally go for like the Colossus and the Pyramids (I never go for the Oracle, anyway), but the Sistine Chapel is the IDEAL wonder to build for Spain (in my opinion). I also like to build the Great Lighthouse if I need it for sea movement (it can be an EXTREMELY powerful wonder if you're playing on Achiapelago map...), but it's not worth the risk if you don't need to cross sea tiles with galleys early-on.

      In my most recent game I built the Great Lighthouse (had an island start) and later built Sistine (& JS Bachs during the resulting GA). Gave me an early GA before I had Conquistadors, but it was only 10-15 turns prior to when I was expecting it.

      I knew building Sistine would do this but I couldn't pass up the benefits.

      I'm not suggesting we pass up all of these wonders, well ... except Colossus. We should just be wary and be ready for a GA if we combine them.

        That makes sense to me.

        PS...to History Guy, watch it with the tacos and enchiladas, that Mexican not Spanish. You should know that we Spaniards are disdainful of the Mexicans and their yucky spicy food.

        Now how about some paella?

            In my game, I am now to the Midieval Ages. The science situation is pathetic (I will research _ in 40 turns) and producing about 15gpt.

            Carthage recently entered my territory twice without RoP, so I declared war and kicked some major Carthaginian hiney. I got the good half of their empire

                  What will we do for science then? And when do we want a GA? Are there any wonders that will produce a more "conveniente" GA for us?

                    Well, if we're ready for it at the time we could build Great Lighthouse + Sistine or JS Bach. Either, when built, might be a good time for a GA.

                    Only problem is that once we build the Lighthouse, we KNOW that if we build any of the religious GW (and since we're religious, they make good wonders) we will instantly have a GA.

                    Once we build the lighthouse there's no going back.

                      More reports on my Spain game:

                      I decided just to turn the research slider off altogether and am now getting about 50gpt, able to scrape by with a tech from one of the other civs every 10 turns or so. The Carthaginians, though not eliminated, are no longer a threat.

                      This means the two major powers on my string-continent are me (Spain) and India.

                      The Celts demanded an absolutely ludicrous amount and after I rejected it they declared war. I have not seen a single Celtic soldier. It doesn't look like I'm going to make it to any GWs in the Midieval, as I don't have a good tech advantage or cities not needing improvement. (Of course, Industrial, that will all change.... )

                      The others on my continent are Carthage (with 4 cities) and Persia (2 cities, but this is not their main continent. They've got a VERY good chunk of land on another continent. wehn I say very, I mean it's good land and about as big as mine after the conquest of the Carthaginians except they didn't have to do any conquest.

                      Last but not least,
                      In my last war with Carthage I got my first GL, and, thinking I would need to go for more of their continent and that my tech situation would improve, I used it to make an army. Now I wish I saved it for Sistine Chapel, but hey, at least I learned something.
                      (The army is still empty. I plan to fill it either with Knights, or Cavalry, Infantry, or Tanks, when they come along.)
