Gentlemen,
Have we, particularly the church, considered the potential significance of the date 1 A.D. to the present turn.
You see... for the entire dating system for the history of our world to be based upon this particular year, this particular turn, means that something of truly enormous significance (strategically, culturally, socially, even religiously) had to have occured on this day.
We've been counting down the years to THIS year for millennia and forever more that this world survives, will be counting upwards from it.
Even though I detest the Glory of War as much as any other true Spaniard, Senor MasterZen of that foul nation did raise a very interesting point in a communique he sent across the lines the other evening... that this turn (and he didn't even realize he was talking about 1 A.D.) will likely be the most important in the entire game.
The thing is, Glory of War likely has no idea of the significance to which it will indeed be so. You see, the forces of Gathering Storm land upon our shores this turn, we may or may not hold onto Pamplona this turn (if we lose it, the date of our sacrifice and the starting point to our eventual resurrection and rebirth shall be what is marked across the ages), and Glory of War may or may not backstab ND this turn. So many things wheel into motion on a single year, a single moment in the history of civilization.
Should we eventually triumph due to the intermixing of events occuring on this day, this year, it should not be questioned that there was a divine hand placed upon the events. It is, afterall, the very year of our lord. Perhaps in this world, the year in which our lord shall bless us with the events that lead to our salvation... perhaps a sacrifice will be necessary for that salvation.
Likewise, if Gathering Storm is indeed to at least partially convert to the Spanish religion and they make their initial landing this year and eventually it leads them to victory, cannot we then claim that it was only because they sought the lord's blessing in the year of the lord that they were permitted this?
So let us celebrate the coming of the new millennium... indeed, the new age.
... and let us hope that we shall survive it.
[OOC]
Because it remains entirely possible that we will yet be wiped out... but here's hoping
External propaganda based upon the year being 1 A.D. is welcome from the Church should events this turn go WELL for us... if not, then a focus on our sacrifice might do in place of this. Either way, the year 1 A.D., if it proves momental in the GAME, may have (at the very least) some entertaining propaganda value.
