Why are two soldiers, a spear and a pike heading AWAY from Vigo!?
The enemy can bring to bear Three ansars and a med inf against my city and its defenders are leaving!!? My garrison is left with ONE pike in the city and one on the iron!?
What on earth are you thinking?
Are you playing at abandoning everything and hiding in Pamplona!? Its too late to turn back now, but if my city falls... I'll cut heads from their shoulders, regardless how high and mighty they might be!
Vigo is still our ONLY iron supply and if you believe that some pathetic slave camp will stand unmolested then you are bigger fools than I thought. As it is, Vigo is a thorn in our enemies' side. They have to leave behind garrisons and fight on two fronts, but who needs a strategic advantage. I'm afraid that your discretion has become too great a part of your valor.

In vigo - IIRC - the spear that was on teh diamond and teh pike that was to the north were moved into it do defend. The other pike, on the iron, is playing the part of deception - showing that we need this iron and will not just give it up.
It doesn't matter if that last pike was or was not moved itno the city. IF (and a big if it is) ND was to go after it, it had less than a 10% chance of survival. And in dying it would only inflict minimal losses on them. Personally, I hope they do attack there rather than to the south. The south is wide open and any assult there is just a disaster for us. All those size 1 cities with no culture and no defenders.....
Personally, I don't think they will attack anything this turn. They should consolidate and try and take out our capitol next turn.If you're interested in participating in the first Civ 5 Community Game then please visit: http://www.weplayciv.com/forums/forum.php

I thought that Vigo should have been defended as much as possible also; but it was decided to keep some units away from harm and use them to defend elsewhere.
If I am not mistaken, time is on our side here. In that we only need a few turns more in order for GS to bring in its support. By tieing up ND's forces in Vigo, we would have bought that time. Now, as it is, ND only needs one unit to take down Vigo.
Oh well, lets see what happens.

The save is here. It will be played later tonight to give everyone a chance to review it and post orders. I have emailed it to many of you. If you did not receive it contact me or anyone else on the team to forward it to you.
I will be gone most of the afternoon. I'll return this evening. Feel free to coordinate with our GS allies for this turn.
Vigo has fallen, there are troops at the gates of Zaragoza. GS has come through and arrived en mass. No GoW units can be seen.
--Togas
p.s. Regarding Vigo -- it was going to fall. Our war calculations indicated that the 4 defenders could kill 1.5 Ansars, who would then have free reign to invade the south of Spain. By keeping 1 pike in the city, the Arabs had to attack with full force (not knowing how many defenders were there). Now that they have it, they will try to kill our defenders (gurilla fighters) who are fortified in the mountains. Attacking us in the mountains will cause far more ND casualties than fighting us in the open plains of Vigo. And having our defenders there will tie up their Ansars AND keep them from easily swooping into our unprotected south.Greatest Moments in ISDG chat:"(12/02/2003) <notyoueither> the moon is blue. hell is cold. quote me, but i agree with ET. Unit count for visible ND divisions on the western front:
SW of Zaragoza: 2 pikes, 4 inf
W W of Zaragoza: 1 pike, 1 inf, 1 scout, 2 workers (Spanish)
notes:
there are no ND units near the Nina. They probably are not falling for our bluff.
There are no GoW units in sight anywhere.

We do finally have an offensive option this turn - we can bombard/attack the ND forces (2 Pikes, 4 MedInf) outside Zaragoza with our 1 Cat and 7 MedInf in Zaragoza.
Those forces are not a threat themselves, but combined with a decent number of the Ansars, they would be.
Note that we are sending the 3 horses from Pamplona up to Zaragoza this turn as well.
