  • House of Cardinals: The Conversion of Egypt

OOC: Please whoever sends the proposed agreement to GS add in a Roleplay provision that they convert!!

Ironically, the most threatening times of all of history for Spain have brought our best chance for spreading the word of God: converting the Egyptians.

They have offered to protect us from the warmongering heathens and in the long run protect us and be our eternal friends. What better opportunity is there to convert them? If their troops join our fighting for the glory and greatness of God, will they not be overcome by the glorious truth and abandon their heathen chicken-worship? My fellow Cardinals, and people of Spain, not only will an agreement with Egypt save us from the northern infidels, but it will also begin a worldwide triumph of Christianity!

To the other Cardinals: What other ideas concerning the conversion of the Egyptians do you have? Also what is your official position (to obtain the church's position by vote) on the agreement, 1) without conversion and 2) with it. I am all for it in case 2, but in the first I am currently uncertain.

OOC: That part of course is all RP, so assuming conversion is part of the agreement case 2 should be your actual opinion and case 1 a less positive opinion.

    Cardinal de la Civ,

My own opinion is that, if Spain is to make such agreements with Egypt, she should have her way, and that heathen country should listen to our terms. If they want a toe-hold on Bob, and we know that they do, they will listen.

Spain, a Catholic country, should not cede land to her enemies or her allies unless it is to be returned at a later date. The idea of sending our Christian brothers to their destruction at the hands of the Musselmen of Arabia is abhorrent to the Church.

However, if Spain is to make such allowances to Egypt, it must be on her terms. I would like to hear what they want of us, instead of just suggestions.

This alone is concrete: There must be no agreements unless the persecution of Christians ceases and the Emperor of Egypt is baptized and Christianity be made to flourish in his country. Otherwise, the Spanish should make no deal.

    Pope Calixtus I

    Pleasures flowing,
Fortune smiles and so should you.
