To my opinion, the name of the city New Madrid is wrong one. Here some arguments why New Madrid should be renamed to Madrid:
- New Madrid is built on the ruins of the old city Madrid. Because it is on the same site or very near to that site, it is more appropriate to name it to the original name of the site: Madrid, instead of New Madrid.
- The name of Madrid is historically bound to the site on which the city of New Madrid is build. New Madrid is, essentially a new name, although it contains the old name in it. It is better to use the historical name Madrid than the new name New Madrid.
- The name New Madrid implies that this city is a colony in the New World, but it is a city on our own continent and near our own cities and not an overseas city. When we found a city in the New World (Legoland) or in The East, the name New Madrid would be very appropriate, but inside or near the borders of Spain, it is not.
- The name New Madrid is not Spanish. Madrid is Spanish, but New is not.
