  • Academia de Guerra

Davout, you have broken the tie in the discussion between the King and some of his Lords, thank you.
I hope that this idea of yours will be a sucess, but I will try to establish the Military Council too.

The Academia de Guerra, as I have called it, war academy, will be a place to discuss all issues about war and defense. Defensive issues of cities and of the entire territory of Spain. It can also be used as a place to distribute strategical theories. Please keep issues of Foreign Politics and diplomacy out of this place.

I request the King to officially open this Academia de la Guerra.

    Duke Aidun Cian of Zaragoza.

    What? Gadzooks! Another academy!

Ah well, this one looks good enough for the Military Governor of Toledo.

I son of Paolo Nuñez de la Vigo, Esteban Nuñez de la Vigo have trained with the garrison of Vigo for many years and I believe it a shame that we do not have a proper training ground for our men. I wish to be involved in the military council and perhaps in time I can help influence our cities to spend more on defence than on fattening wealth.

        GENERAL ORDER No. 29,
        St. Iago's Barracks,
        Toledo

I am Captain Headwig de History Guy Calamari of the garrison of Toledo. I have it from Lord Toledo this morning that the academy has his full support, and that training ground is available also at Toledo for the instruction of troops.

The Viceroy Calamari appointed me to assist in the recruitment of troops for the Toledo Barracks, and has sent me as head instructor to serve under you, Lord Zaragoza, the head of the academy.

        BY ORDER OF
        Lord Toledo, Viceroy Calamari
        Empire growing,
        Pleasures flowing,
Fortune smiles and so should you.

I have discovered some ancient maps drawn up by one of my ancestors. It contains positions for strategic fortifications along our northern border.
Unfortunately the situation is not the same and we do not have the time, but a few well placed forts will greatly slow and weaken an approaching army.
I suggest that we consider building some ASAP.

Quote from my post in the WWB threadIf we want to build fortifications near Zaragoza or Santiago, we'd betterbuild one on the game and/or build one on tile #2 of Santiago, or the tile NE of Santiago. moving troop to that tile is strategically clever, because then you can attack Santiago while your units needn't to cross a river when attacking. I heard but just form WhiteBandit that he hasn't got that much workers to complete it quickly, so these plans are still more like a utopia. The best thing we can do is to build just masses of pikemen and medieval infantry.

We have to make use of our advantage of the jungle and the inability to attack us directly form ND territory: they have to move to both Santiago and Zaragoza turn for turn.

ND has to move their Ansars just before our wlas and xcan but attack the NEXT turn. Ansars can but poorly defend and M I is strong in the attack, so if we counter attack them turn after turn, we will gain victory over them, instead they over us.

              =============TOP-SECRET=======================

This shall not leave here, but we must start to consider the preparations for an eventual withdrawal from Zaragoza and Santiago, and possibly other northern possesions. We must have a contingency plan drawn for this situation. The Cordillera of mountains that cuts Spain amidst can make up for great defensive ground, and in an emergency I think we could manage to withdraw most of our forces to there untill we could catch up to the enemy and beat him. This would need a stronger naval force, a higher number of catapults and pikes too, so we must do teh calculations to check if it is worth doing or not (There is the possibility, for example, that with teh amount of troops needed to hold the mountains we could hold spain anywhere , but either way let´s check.

Withdraw from Santiago and Zaragossa? It seems to me that the best spot to attack at present is Toledo. It is on the border, under constant watch from scouts. It is sparsely defended, well-populated, near resources, and it is connected by a road to the nearby capital and to New Madrid.

I tell you the truth, I will never give up Cow Valley! I will sacrifice the entire south west (to be recaptured later) before I withdraw from Zaragoza, Pamplona, Santiago, Leon, and Vigo. And if it come between choosing which side to defend, we will hold Cow Valley until the last!

We have invested everything into this region. Giving it up cannot be an option. I would sooner see it destroyed than fall into the hands of the infidels!

I would agree. Under no circumstances can we allow Cow Valley to fall. Cow Valley is Spain. Spain is Cow Valley. How can we survive if our heart has been scooped away?

I had completely ignored this thread before now!

With "Academia" in the thread title, I thought it was another idling, roleplay chit-chat or politics discussion.

Ages ago I had hoped that people would discuss military matters at the Training Ground thread. Later on, The Spanish Army thread was created and some discussion took place there (BTW, where did that thread go? I can't find it.) Right now there has been a bit of talk in both the Preparing for World War Bob and Spanish Wargames threads.

Until the founding of a Military Council (I'm waiting ), and a thread for it, if everyone could voice their opinions in the Preparing for World War Bob thread, I would appreciate it. That thread has the best start on a solid military discussion, and I'd like to continue it.

My opinion on it, Generalissimo? We need many more Medieval Infantry! We cannot win this war by Pikemen alone!
