I'm awaiting orders on this. Things are getting too confusing. Indeed, I've found that I myself am a supporter of the Republic, that the countryside has risen up into arms, and that half of the general population wants you freed and that the other half just wants to burn you just for the heck of it.

Fact is...we've all rebelled. Republic is on the way, it seems. I've given up trying to follow it.

    Your Holiness,

Tell me what to do with this man? Can I release him? If Republic is coming, there's no need to hold him prisoner any longer...

*low whisper that no one hears*

Unless the Swiss Guards want to run him up the flag-pole again, or something. That's just like them.

    *back to normal voice*

    I await your decision.

Besides, it appears as if this trial is going absolutely nowhere, because 1) we all know he's guilty and 2) the Monarchy is being replaced anyway.

    Pleasures flowing,

I want him burned, for the hell of it.

Then again, considering his innocence (well, not to the law, but to the land, you could say), we could just make an effigy of him and burn that?

Hmm, what the cardinal says is true...
many are claiming to be republicans now... many are even using a ´´flag´´ of the republic...
Let me know if you see someone with such a treacherous simbol of rebelion...

The crimes were commited regardless of what is currently happening. If the laws of the land were violated then a trial must be held. If the laws change during this trial, then the accused may ask for a dismissal of charges. If the laws change after this trial ends and he is found guilty he may ask for an appeal.
          [OOC] If he's still alive...[/OOC]

I am concerned with the here and now. What this man stands accused of is in clear violation of current law. The crimes he is accused of are not crimes to be described as his voicing an opinion about what a new or different governement might benefit Spain and her people; rather the evidence brought forth suggests that the accused was simply trying to incite a riot to bring change about. If the accused had brought up points for a new form of governement instead of belittling our King and our current system of governence then that would be another matter. The medium used and the manner his message was tranmitted, as testified to, is against the current law.

          The trial shall proceed.

Does the prosecution rest it's case?

The accused that broken the Law of the Church. Since then the Law has been changed only once, but that has no effect on this trial, because this man did not undermine the position of the Pope or the King (Law of the Church, General Law, Article VI). The suspect is accused of insulting the Pope and committing treason towards the King. Whether this accusation is true or not, I will not say now, but the trial may not be dropped because of recent events, not even if the court is stormed and the accused is freed.
Only if the Law of the Church is changed in favor of the accused, he can be released because the crimes he committed are no longer considered crimes.

In addition to the statements made by various people who are active in this trial, I want to state that republicanism is outlawed.
Article VI states that any attempt to undermine the position of the King and the Pope is forbidden and that republicanism is outlawed.

Nuclearis Winterius III is arrested for republicanism. In the dungeaons of the Chuch he will await his trial.

[ooc]When it comes to a revolution, the Church will be ultra-conservative and will stick to outlawing republicanism and will do everything to keep the monarchy, although as a member of this team I favor the republic over the monarchy.
I hope that the King's troops and the Swiss Guards will together battle against the republicans. After years of civil war, a compromise will be found (Togas's plan of a republic): The Church will remain powerful in the judicial branch, the republicans get their House of Lords, the King remains King. Then the Church will drop Article VI or the General Law and republicanism will no longer be outlawed.

I hope you like this RP story and I hope you want to play it with me. [ooc]

I have heard of the great mess you conjured upon yourself with your distracted mind, Nuclearis...

My most Holy Pope Aidun the First, I beg of you that you release this man, I sincerely believe he says the truth! As you may see, he has always been a loyal servant of King Togas!I don´t recall seeing him making any statement in favour of republicanism, and just because he picekd some weird flag it doesn´t mean he is republican...! Besides, I myself didn´t know this flag simbolised republic .

The Flag is clearly not the flag of the Kingdom of Spain, which is coloured red-yellow-red, with the arms of Spain in the yellow part. Anyone using a different flag, does apparently not support the monarchy and is thus a republican. Señor Nuclearis Winterius will held captice until the Inquisition has completed its current trial. If the republicans will keep themselves quiet, he might only be punished with imprisonment instead of death. [ooc]Don'taccept this, but go revolting[/ooc]

The Church will not tolerate that the King, who represents the almighty God in the world, will be forced to abdicate by foul rioters like republicans. The monarchy is the only fair form of government and so it will be until the end of time.

SO now the Pope makes up a flag for Spain?
Spain never had a flag! HA!NOw this... we only have the shield of the united kingdom of spain. Never have we had anything like this!!! The colors around don´t make it more republican or less!!! If someone were to call satanas God, and pray to Him with evil intentions, he would be no less sinner !!!

                      Your Holiness,

I apologize for the interruption. We shall proceed.

Has anyone seen the Watcher, Senor Thud, or has he too vanished in the mob of rioters?

Light the torches, men, a full-scale search must be organized for the Watcher.

While we wait, I call Pablo Winterius to the witness box.

                      Senor Winterius,

Good sir, when did you first lay eyes on the accused?

Did you see him, in New Madrid, proclaiming that treasonous and vindictive letter on high before the crowds?

Did you hear him later say that he was calling upon the common people for revolution?

Did you hear him demand that the King be removed from power?

Did you hear him insult the Pope?

Do you think that his father's death could have influenced these actions?

Do you think that he is totally insane?

                      Thank you.

Nuclearis Winterius III has proved himself unguilty. He was but a bit naive to show that flag in these revolutionary days. He will be immediately released.

Guards! Give this man back his freedom.

I want to see some major rioting going on in support of the current wave of republicanism. Once we make the switch, I will have to declare a mistrial since there will no longer be a basis for prosecution. We need to turn some of this into something we can present in the public forums. A story or a narrative would be great! Who's up for the task? Maybe a few of you guys can collaberate on something.

[ooc]I will do so I have already announced this in the S.P.I.N. thread of UnOrthOdOx. Keep in mind however that it might also be an idea to get information that we would not give free without such a S.P.I.N.. Watch out that you don't tell strangers and non-Spaniards too much about our internal rolepley. Our roleplay is mostly related to ingame issues and anyone who understands the language of this team good enough can translate a roleplay story into the truth.
We could say that there has been another attempt of the republicans to replace the monarchy by a republic, but that they have failed and that the monarchists have won: Justino Togas I is still King of Spain.
By using a term like the House of Lords, or the older term of the Thane Council, we can hide that we have a Senate.
Also by referring a lot to the Church and the Inquisition, we can make the story juicy, but not too clear for outsiders. By describing the Church and the Inquisition like they are the most poweful organizations in Spain and by pretending that it is the Pope rather than the King who rules Spain, we gan give outsiders a rather different impression of Spain than the impression they would like to have.

                              [/ooc]

Ummm...speaking of rioting, did you chaps notice that some of the populace outside happens to be carrying a gigantic battering ram, shouting "Kill Torquemada! Kill Torquemada!" and sometimes "Kill everyone else! Kill everyone else!"?

And is it just me, or are they burning a cat at the stake?

And is it just me or...

(Suddenly, a baliff breaks into a run, lifting his knife at the Pope and the Cardinal, screaming "Death to the Papists! Long live the Druids! Vive la Revolutione!"

He runs forward, cutting through the crowd, his knife poised to strike the Pope and the Cardinal down before the Swiss Guards can stop him...

Suddenly, from out of the crowd, Cardinal Calamari's secretary, Gastronome Neecap V leaps in front of the assassin...the knife is buried in his chest as the Swiss Guards hurl their pikes into the revolutionary's side.

Blood splatters all over the place from the assassin's wound, for he falls back against the Dock. Torquemada shudders in horror as his shirt is ruined.

The Pope and the Cardinal kneel by the body of the heroic secretary, giving him the sacrament of extreme unction.
