  • Spain is scientifically challenged!

    [Rant]

We are behind in technology at the one point in this game when it is most dangerous for us!

How long before GoW and ND have their deadly fast UUs romping all over this continent? And here we sit, with no unit technologies of the Middle Age - we're sitting ducks!

The only defense strategy we have - the Cutting Edge stack - will not stand up to Riders or Ansars!

I have been sounding off about getting Feudalism since the first civ got it - and no one seems to be listening. If we do not get that technology quickly, Spain could well be entering the history books with Lux.

    Get us Feudalism!

    Marshal,

I too have been saying this for as long as I can remember. I'm sick and tired of saying it, but it must be said. I've said it so many times that the collective words have probably formed a big cloud that is now circling the earth in a new layer of the atmosphere. I've said it so much that I wish someone else would continue when I leave off. I've said it so much that I think if I say it again, my brains will explode.

    (boom)

Now, as it is, you are right. Without Feudalism we have no hope. The Arabs are clearly on the breakthrough of Chivalry if they don't already have it. When they do have it, you know that they will take out the thorns in their side. We are the bigger threat at the moment, and we will fall to them.

However, unless someone is willing to sell us this information, we will not be able to discover it. We obviously couldn't research a bloody thing at this stage. If we knock up the research margin a bit, we'll fall into the red. We are in the greatest crisis ever to befall Spain at this moment. Something needs to be done now.

I need to know when we can realistically continue to research our own technology.

        We have considerable upkeep costs.
        We will be buying Feudalism.
We will receive Engineering for helping Vox.

              Senor Winterius, my old friend,

I am afraid that we can't very well get our economy back in line for a long while unless we can effectively double our research capabilitites. In other words, we're getting sucked into a depression, and there is little way out.

                What's in it for China?

Why are the Warmongers so intent on assisting us with their scientific material? It seems odd that a people who's sole desire is to kill everybody else would be so eager to supply us with the greatest military secrets of all time. Feudalism isn't the first thing they've traded to us that is military-related, and it won't be the last if Chivalry is sold to us. I must ask, why do they want us to have such a great army?

The answer, that they want us to be a match for the Arabs who will destroy Neu Demogyptica one day in the future, is obvious. But why would they want us to become so powerful? Of course, they would take their own bits here and there, seizing a handful of towns and all, but what would they achieve?

If the news that they were are allies in a war against the Arabs ever reached the ears of Sultan Borc, would not the reputation of China be dampened in the embassies of Arabia? If we were to fall before the Arabs, would not the next target be China most assuredly? And what do they think we would do if we overwhelmed Arabia? Do they think we'd allow a thorn such as they to remain unless to be our vassals?

I just ask, do they have some slight catch here that makes it all worthwhile? Otherwise, it looks like they are aware that they are going to get it whatever happens, and they just want to take someone down before they go.

I suspect China thinks that only together can we face the challenges before us. ND yes, but also GS and possibly Lego. With the distance between us, it is quite unpractical to be enemies.

Most assuredly, but certainly they'd see that they'd be stuck as vassals if we won. In a way, though, I suspect to them it would be worse than being wiped out.
