Vox Trade Issues

My point was that even if they wouldn't get contact with GoW and RP immediately they would fairly soon as enough people will have writing after not too long. Which would soon completely negate the advantage in number of contacts that we currently have. Is it worth it for us to essentially give contacts to GS and Vox to everyone else on our continent in exchange for us to contact GS?? I don't think so. At least not unless Vox can often more..which they can't.Citizen of the Apolyton team in the ISDG

if we want contact with gs earlier, we need to give them techs NOT contacts. We want monopoly in all contacts. But vox could use some tecgs so that we can open up their tech tree possibility. Its limited as it is to work around tech buddying program...
I wasnt here the couple of days and I should have been here to emphasize some points. BFM your intentions were pure in that you sought maximum possibilities for our nation to grow by trading w/ Vox, but your initial proposal would have never passed and would have just brought out unwanted ideas (like Vox asking for NDE contact). The problem is that vox and GS are arch rivals. Even then, they would loathe the idea of losing monoply of flow of information coming from Luxia. So I am now gonna send a PM to beta trying to repair the whole situation. We dont want this talk escalting anymore. Lets hush the whole contact trade please...Last edited by Zero; January 26, 2003, 15:19.:-p

OK - let me first say that I am not willing to give Vox =any= contacts.
The most we can do for them is trade them Alphabet for Communications with GS.
Why not search for GS ourselves? Because that takes resources. We need to get MapMaking, we need to get a city on the coast, we need to get a boat, and GS needs to be on the coast somewhere.
It is not bad to donate Alphabet to Vox. We need them to counter-balance GS a bit, because I think they are doing very well.Greatest moments in cat:

Damage has been done. We most likely wont trade alphabet for communication with GS if Vox has any idea how to play... Thats an extremly bad deal.
Its already a bit screwed. Im just gonna tell them later that the deal isnt possible cause we require writing. And delay the whole idea. If this goes any further, there just gonna be disappointment for both sides. No need to pursue this deal for now.

If for any reason we need to contact GS, we need to do so in order to save GS, not Vox.
Donating Alphabet is a greta idea, but the fact is if Vox have any smart advisors they will object to the idea of getting a free tech for possibility of stregthening their enemies. I mean they are a civ that wont even trade with GS even if they offered them something.
We dont need a city or harbor. It takes a land unit, a galley and mapmaking in order to make contact. Thats not too bad considering the options we have in order to get contact w/ GS. Beside we will be building a galley for exploration purpose i hope... its not too much to ask for. And to add to that we know the exact location of GS (vox told us they are south from us)... its such a waste to give them something we wouldnt want to give them just to get contact sooner.Last edited by Zero; January 26, 2003, 16:15.:-p

IMHO, no damage has been done. We have been talking with open minds about possible deals. No threats have been made; nothing has been demanded, and we are not screwed.
We will acquire Writing in 6 turns or so (from RP), so that is when we might do this deal.
Do not tell them the deal is off just yet!
You can only build a galley in a city on a coast.Greatest moments in cat:

After seeing Vox's opinion in the chat that Calc and I had with them yesterday, I am not too sure about them anymore.
They seem to think that our deal is "we will give each other all techs we acquire". No way!
They also have an alternative plan: after we have Writing, we gain contact with Gathering Storm and we trade tech to both other civs. This, however, must not be done on a 'free' basis, but other civs should trade, too!
Calc - could you post more info about the results of the chat?Greatest moments in cat:

We need to maintain the upper hand over Vox. They could easily leave our grasp as a 'vassal' if they get too strong. We need to play a balance with Vox and GS. We have nothing against GS, and we don't need to give them a reason to dislike us (i.e. helping Vox too much, and ignoring GS completely). If Vox tries to get too aggressive, then try to get them back into line... if not, then we have other means of revealing their attempted treachary.
