  • Military Armament Buildup Program

Recently a topic of discussion between myself and Calc has been the possibility of a massive military buildup program.

    Factors:
We are building up a massive treasury. We have 45 gold now, with 8 more every turn. That's a lot.
We can build quick and easy 10 shield Chariots, then quickly and easily upgrade them to Horsemen when we get the tech from GoW. We can pump these things out like the wind if we want to. For all intents and purposes, each one we build will become a Horseman.

The problem lies in the fact that I wanted all of our offensive forces to be veterans... thereby requiring a Barracks, which we don't really have the convenience to build right now... Spearman in Regio, Granary then Settler in Invictus, etc.

So what do you guys think? We could easily get 4 or 5 or more Horsemen from this, but there are trade-offs, and other things to work out with it.

Can someone confirm for me that on regent level 10 shield = 10 gold during upgrade before we do this?
    :-p

10 shield equals 20 gold...I'm not 100% sure. Run a quick game to horseback riding and try it out.

This military buildup scheme is more to my liking

        I figured you'd like that.

I just want to see if everyone else thinks it's feasible and advisable...

Let's get at least one Horseman, as soon as we have HRB and the horses connected, of course. That way, the Sid guy working for ND will inform them that we have Horsemen.

But do not build too many "weak" units, since this might hurt our treasury.

For the rest, I am not such of a warmonger, so I'll leave this to you guys.

Warmongering...hmmm...so, when is war justifiable? After you've been attacked? It's too late to throw the robber out of your house when he's already killed your dog.

In MP offense really is the best defense. It's always better to be attacking with a Stack of Death then trying to defend one.

just ran a regent MP game, but it was glitchy and it kept displaying it was chieftan when loading. Im gonna try a single player game later. It did say upgrade from chariot to horsemen is 10 gold. I thought in chieftain it was cheaper (like 5 gold per upgrade), so I dunno if there is a display problem of correct difficulty or if I was really playing chieftain.

I don't know if the level affects the cost of upgrades or not...personally, I usually play on Monarch.

If two hungry weak dogs circle the same piece of meet, what do they do? Do they split the meat evenly and eat it and go about their mary way, hoping for more meat later? Do they split it, eat it, rest up, and then fight, feeling a little stronger with something in their belly? Do they instead immediately launch into each other, knowing that it is better to attack a weak oponent?
