  • Vox Controli trade

    Hello!!!
Greetings Calc II of Lux Invicta.

I am BetaHound of Vox Controli, the Voice of Foreign Afairs for my civilization. It was very good to hear from you - and yes - I can hear you just fine. It is a good thing that it is not too windy today. We too thought it a good omen to meet another Latin-named civ. Maybe there is more to this culturally-linked stuff than we know, eh.

To business. I have taken your proposal to The Controller and the Vox Senate. We are a compact civilization, and do not dilly dally on responses.

I have been directed to tell you that we are very interested in a technology trading arrangement. As we stated earlier in our bottle message, this would be a wonderful method to advance the knowledge of both our civilizations. We are on separate continents. I can see no reason why we would not want to work together to make both Lux and Vox technology leaders in this world.

To that end, I am authorized to say that we would like to offer knowledge of ceremonial burial in return for your knowledge of pottery. It allows you to honor your citizens as they pass into the next world, and may inspire you to build temples to remember their lives and their deaths. We have found our civilization, shall we say, spiritually enlightened, as a result of ceremonial burial.

We would also like to propose that we discuss establishment of a more comprehensive technology researching and trading arrangement. To this end, I am authorized to tell you that our scientists are well on their way to revealing the secrets of iron working. Perhaps you are on a similar path. Perhaps not. Perhaps you have access to other sources of technology. Perhaps not. But if you see my point, we could effectively double our research immediately under such an arrangement. Lux would research one path - Vox another - and then when both are finished, we would trade.

I'm also sure that such an arrangement, and the trust that it would engender between our two civilizations, would soon carry over to trade and diplomatic alliances. And I have no doubt that friendship, and all the mutual benefits it entails, will carry both of us far in this uncertain world.

Well, my dear Calc, I ramble. You should see what my poor colleagues back home have to put up with from me.

So, a simple response on the pottery for ceremonial trade will suffice, and then we can do the deal. If you are in agreement, whoever has the next move should put it on the table.

If you need more time to consider revealing your research path and/or other possible deals, and our offer for a future arrangement, please take your time. We are a patient people. And I can see where this may require discussion.

Please call whenever you would like to talk. Given our latin heritages, perhaps I should end this note with a phrase to honour this historic meeting and our first trade. (and my apologies for my poor latin).

    Veni. Vidi. Visa.

(We came. We saw. We went shopping.)

Here's to more business in the future. May health and prosperity go with you and your people.

    In friendship,

    BetaHound

Now we already have ceremonial burial. Pehaps Betahound does not have PTW. So we will wait until Senate passes what to trade. I plan to reveal the techs that we have soon. Also I want to direct them into a tech we won't be researching for some time, so that we can get a trade agreement later. We should also coordinate a tech agreement with Vox as well as RP, so that we can work as a middleman to switch techs they research Then theoratically, even if we don't reserach anything we will be always able to recieve techs from the 2 civ.

But it looks like they have nothing to offer us for now.
    :-p

Yes.it appears that way. what we need to do is get an agreement soon from RP about what tech we want them to research and have Vox research something else other than what we are researching, so that the 3 of us are researching three different techs.

So we research top branch, RP researches middle branch, Vox researches bottom branch, I take it?

And if it wouldn't offend him, could you correct the Latin to Venimus, vidimus, emimus?
oh god how did this get here I am not good with livejournal

I will post all incoming and outgoing messge on this forum. So that you guys can be aware just exactly what conversations are taking place.

Draft to be sent today (1/11/03)

This letter is to address the issue of possible tech buddying with vox. We have Tech agreement with RP and (possibly) GoW, which means we can research four different tech at once! Since Vox is unknown to none of our continental buddies, they are our wild card to step up in this tech race. Trip is currently working on Tech agreement with RP and GoW, trying to steer them away (if it is necessary) from the tech I am trying to persuade them to research. We're going to have to play huge amount of diplomacy and manipulative tactics in order to engineer the tech researching of each civ in order for the tech swapping to be favorable to us.

Greetings, BetaHound! I hope you got my message about our interest in establishing a possible tech agreement for the future. I have just spoke with Trip, and he seems to love the idea of helping each other in the tech race against other civilization. After all, what better than to have the two scientific civ in this game to stick together? The future looks bright to me, Lux and Vox, as their scientists cooperate to advance this world.

Anyway, I don't know if your senate held any meetings about such topic, but Trip and I went through great details about what would benefit the land of Lux and Vox the most. Currently our knowledge of your understanding of the world is a bit sketchy to us. As far as we know, you guys can do basic crafting skills that we Lux Invicta have learned long ago, Mansonry and Bronze Working. We also understand your alchemists are working hard to create a better alloy than bronze, which we already have mentioned are doing as well. And finally, you guys have the knowledge of burying the dead, which we also have.

Which leads to this. Trip and I feel, according to our current knowledge of Voxian's understanding of the world, that as soon as their wiseman are finished with the production of this better alloy which you call iron, the best choice for next research topic would be Mysticism I am sure your wiseman considered this possibility. It is the next step up in the tree with ceremonial burial . To tell you the truth, our wiseman wants to learn this secret ourself, but the funding is limited that Mysticism doesn't come up as a priority for our nation. We need to learn secrets with more pressing needs, which we will share with you, if you only cooperate with us in researching this tech for us.

Last but not least, We would like to know just how much turn it will take for you to finish Iron working. Perhaps we can see who can finish faster and help out the other? It's just a thought looming on my mind, but I'd appreciate it if you reveal us this information, so that we can better decid and plan the tech trades, should you agree to take part in this wonderful co-operative research agreement.

          Thanks!~

            Reply from BetaHound. Sounds good.

Greetings. We will discuss your letter within Vox, and get back to you shortly. I am optimistic that we can do business along the lines you have suggested. Cheers. Beta.

                From BetaHound
CalcII - greetings to you, Trip, and the people of Lux Invicta from we of Vox Controli.

I trust all is well with you. I am responding to your recent correspondence. Yes - we have discussed the potential of a joint tech research and trade arrangement. We are prepared to embark with Lux on such a course. As we have stated previously, we can see tremendous benefits for both our civilizations.

I have also been authorized to tell you that we are approximately 11 turns away from realizing the secrets of iron working. As we are of Persian lineage, you can appreciate how key this is to our civilization. We would be loathe to abandon this research given that we have come this far. That being said, however, we are willing to discuss proposals now for trading iron working upon its completion.

We were disappointed to hear that ceremonial burial was not of interest to you, but we understand the realities of this world. In fact, stories of Lux mythology are told far and wide, and are of keen interest to our population. Some clerics are even concerned that many citizens have taken to worshipping your deity, Lucius. However, the more enlightened of the clergy see the singularity involved - and feel that your Lucius may be our One. They see it as a sign that our people have a closer, more spiritual connection that goes beyond technology and trade. As a diplomat - I see the common bond as language - and wine of course - both of which allow an openess with you that we probably could not share with all civilizations in this uncertain world.

But, I wander. Back to business. We have recently acquired knowledge of this circular thing called 'the wheel' - yes, it was a good year - and would like to see how this could be worked into our trade negotiations.

If there is anything else you feel we should be discussing in these early talks, please put it on the table - right here beside the cheese and this fine Cabernet-Sauvignon. One item which comes to mind is geography - as each of us shares an understanding of the world unknown to the other. Perhaps we can talk more on this.

We look forward to hearing from you on these matters.

                Regards.

                Sincerely,

                BetaHound, VFA, Vox Controli
                And another regarding their policy.
Calc - Beta here. No RP. Regarding trading info on geography, I should let you know that I am opposed in principle to trading mini-maps, as has been suggested elsewhere and previous in the game or in the forum. This isn't a strategy thing at all. I just think it is not within the spirit and intent of the game. I don't believe that it should be allowed. So as FA rep for Vox, I won't allow us to do it. If it puts us at a disadvantage, so be it. Verbal descriptions - OK, great. But no minimaps. Sorry for being such a purist - but hey - the game's the game. Let's play it the way it was intended. When we have the right techs, we can trade maps 'in the game'. Thanks for listening. Hope you understand. Regards. Beta.

This thread needs to be topped. We need foreign affairs thread in which ambassadors post PMs for each civ. Anyway from me to Beta

Thanks for the letter Beta, I believe it is time for us to fully reveal our technological advancement to you. I have just recently been authorized to do so. In addition, I am very happy that Vox has shared some of their own information. Unfortunately, it seems like your civilization does not have anything to offer to us technology wise. Do not worry, we may still work out a trade.

                  Our advancements are as follows:
                  Mansonry, Bronze working

We have found: pottery, ceremonial burial, warrior code, wheel.

As you can see, we have alot to offer you. We have no desire to withhold any strategically valuable tech to you, since we feel very safe with the people of Vox. Our natural boundaries provide little to dispute over and our common heritage of being latin-decent as well as common love for science makes Vox one of our favorite. If we can cooperate in tech buddying, it would be to your best interest since we have so much to offer you as of now. Please take serious consideration in planning mysticism as your next technological project. I would also like to hear what you guys want to work out for us recieving mysticism as soon as you guys discover it. We are open to suggestions, and we are very lenient right now, so please take advantage and accept this proposal.

I wish to hear from you again.
