Since apparently we seem to be very near to the coast, and the ocean may become a rather important factor for us to deal with. What amount of resources should we dedicate to our coastline, and its defense (navy, units, ect.)?

Some loser insisted I post my suggestion to build our ~5th city on that coast, assuming it's not too far away. So there it is.Last edited by punkbass2000; December 8, 2002, 04:54."I used to be a Scotialist, and spent a brief period as a Royalist, but now I'm PC"

I believe there's a great spot to build a city just NE of our capital. If it's really good, then it might not be a bad idea to build one there real soon, improve it, and maybe start the Colossus there."If you're not having fun, then you're losing the game."-Copyright Warrior Poet 11/18/2002 "No plan survives first contact with the enemy."-Tsun Tzu -Don't know when B.C.

From my experience building some empty galleys when you get close to the middle ages will stop any kind of sea attack until the late middle ages because for the attacker it is simply not worth the risk of getting their units sunk before they can even land. even if it takes galleys to sink it, you have lost one galley while they have lost the galley and the two units it was carrying.
Another thing, elimination games excluded, I rarely see human players use the sea to launch an attack if there is a land border between due the risks of losing units. So a force of about 4 galleys should work. we may need more or less, depending on what our overall location and our likelyhood of being attacked from there.Citizen of the Apolyton team in the ISDG

If we find a site that's near a river and good for a city, then that will probably benefit us a great deal.
However, we must scout out our area and see what we have to work with here... we know we have a border with the sea not very far away, so getting to know the lay of the land in the other directions will be very important.

That will be a long ways off...unless some warmongerring freak decides to put a couple swordsmen and horsemen on a couple galleys...Oh, I see my confusion now...I've played so many games where Navy was a non-factor...I had Galleons and Galleys confused..."If you're not having fun, then you're losing the game."-Copyright Warrior Poet 11/18/2002 "No plan survives first contact with the enemy."-Tsun Tzu -Don't know when B.C.
