  • City Name List

Okay, in this thread I want people to post their ideas for city names, and I'll put the candidates in this first post.

Please, nothing that inhibits the other members' decisions (suggesting a 'theme' ), or anything stupid (like naming it after yourself, or something like "Garbage City 666", etc. ).

    So have at it.

Our first (capital) city name will be (fittingly) Invictus.

I have a political reason: I want to name cities after the other civs. I bet they'll never want to attack a city which carries their name.

How about Invictus Prime for our capital?

      For other cities:
      Ceribus
      Maximo
      Draxxus
      Grunden
      Floren
      Minus Terus
      Harkadia
      Kaleiha
      Narnien
      Llyndros

I could think of more...but...who has the time to read them all???

I suggest Timeline because it is incredibly original and has a major relevance to the game.

          Mithraetum
          Termina
          Timeline
          Demontibus
          Faesulae

To those of you who don't get it: Mithras was a non-Roman deity, identified with light. IIRC, he was involved with the Persians or some civilization in the area. Mithras was particularly popular with Roman soldiers, and nearly every Roman fort had a mithraetum, or a temple to Mithras. I figured, since the Latin for "light" is in our team name, and we have a Roman theme...

Termina and Timeline are both borrowed from the Civ3DG, and Demontibus is a variation of "Del Monte", another Civ3DG city. (Literally, "de montibus" is "down from the mountains". Sounds nice for a city near a mountain range.)

As for Faesulae... nah, I'll let you guys figure it out. It figures in the history of the Roman Republic, but I won't say exactly when.

Oh no. I was being completely sarcastic about Timeline.

I'll post these again (I don't care if they're used as a theme or just individually. I just think they make damn-cool sounding city names):

              Sachiel
              Shamshel
              Ramiel
              Gaghiel
              Israfel
              Sandalphon
              Matarael
              Sahaquiel
              Ireul
              Leliel
              Bardiel
              Zeruel
              Arael
              Armisael

Instead of making a list. I think we should make up a new name each time a city is founded. Thet way we can take the terrarin/history of the city into consideration.

Some city names should also change over time just like in real life.

True, SP, maybe this would be better...Depending on our war state, I'd foresee many cities named : "Dont Raze Me" or "Come near me and die"

Let's change the names of all cities every turn. Confuses the hell out of our enemies.

                        Or use a rotation scheme:

                        "Attack near Invictus, Legoboss?"

"No, Legoslave! Attack near Lux, which was called Invictus last turn! Or was it two turns ago? Eh..."

Even if we name cities mainly due to their location/history/significance, we might as well have some sort of general pot to draw from for those cities that just sit there.

No cities "just sit there". When you can point out to me a city that exists for no particular reason or has no interesting geography/history whatsoever i will gladly tatoo "Trip was right" all over my body!

                              That's quite alright.

So what do we do about this issue? It shouldn't be too many more turns before our first city... how should we decide upon which names to use?
