  • MegloManiac's Request to Join

I was just PMed by "MegloManiac." He wants to join Legoland. (He also tried to bribe me with his vote should I get him in. Not a good second impression, I must say... )

I talked to him briefly in the chat a day or two ago; he wanted to join the SPDG but wasn't sure how. He seemed newbie-ish, (which he is, only 8 posts), but okay (though I must say his bribe attempt makes me think twice). He registered in June 2002 (Here's his profile: http://apolyton.net/forums/member.ph...o&userid=20577 )

How do you want to proceed? A poll would seem best, but I must say I'm leery of letting him in. While I think it's pretty clear he's not a DL, his bribe attempt makes me worry about security problems.

Yeah, I have just found a PM from him, too... I am not really in favour of letting him in. We know absolutely nothing about him... and considering the tone of the PM, he is not a very mature individual.

Not trashing him yet, but expressing my preliminary disapproval.

I wouldn't like to accept any newbies right now. In case we accept new members, I'd like to know them. It is too risky to let in unkwown people; not for security reasons, but they could destabilize our team, that is working quite well now, IMO.

Accepting well-known members of the community is a different matter, because we can judge them based on their previous activity/posts. So I say, unless we know the new applicants very well, let not accept them.

As a general rule, we could gently redirect them to the ISDG game, and watch their contribution there. The risk of harming the ISDG game is much more reduced compared to our small team.

i dont know about people with low post counts. We already had a number of people bail out on us and such, we dont need more members who are inactive, or are spies for other teams.

No, I don't see him as an asset. He is also trying to join the Civ3dem game, which would be a better fit. That game is about to end, but there will be another started soon. You should suggest that he begin there.

OK, I will PM him explaining Legoland membership is currently closed, suggesting he may wish to join the SPDG.

Not that it really matters now, but here's the PM he sent me with his membership request:

Hi your part of legoland? Well, i wish to join legoland. May you know i havent been in another ptw group.do you think you could get me in? i could just vote if iam needed, and if you can get me in somehow. on polls i will vote the way you want me to ( not always but it would be a favor to get in this group) thanks! i bow to you!

                  quite immature, IMHO.

That is someone I would never want on the team, for sure.

Yep; definitely immature. (Several more PMs we traded back and forth about posting permission just made that clearer, IMO.)

Boy am I glad that we didn't let him join the team - man perish the thought with his behaviour in the public forum.

Doesn't he realize that we are well into the game and that team might not want to have any more new players?

I shudder to think how much clutter we would have in our forum with him perhaps asking a million questions....
