  • Legoland Infrastructure Outline

    Ok, this thread is for the infrastrucure plan discussion. I have mailed the first half of the proposal to Vondrack, so he should have it up soon.

    In the meantime, I'll try to think up some snappy names for the plan. I think "New Deal" was already taken, so I'd better come up with something new...

      Some observations:

      1. I'm not sure if we shouldn't irrigate the grassland south from Legopolis, to let it grow faster; there are enough hills around for production

      2. Speaking of hills: Why not build a mine NW-NW from Legopolis, instead of the northern hill; it will have a road anyway to connect Panama, so why not mine it if the worker is already there

      3. Instead some of the jungles you chosed, I'd clear those that are on the road from Legopolis to Red Bricks;
      It is 2 step approach where you added an extra one:
      a) first priority is to build the roads;
      b) the workers will move to clear the roaded jungles
      You've added one more step between a) and b): move the workers from the road into the jungle.

      4. We will need to clear the jungle Se-SE from Panama; they have little food and unless I'm not mistaken they won't be able to grow to size 5 (and use 3 hills, like in your plan) without one more irrigation.

      5. At some point in the near future Legopolis will extend its borders and would be profitable to build a road on the closest dye.

      That's it, I think.

      I hope you don't mind Zargon that I'm bashing your plan I just thought it is more efficient to do it in the way I've just described it.

        Ah, I don't consider it bashing at all! Actually, we are in agreement on quite a few things. Let me explain what the picture means, first.

        The pink lines are meant to represent the road network that should be built. Implied with that was the clearing of the jungle along those roads, so that covers your items 3 and 4. The roads are also what I would consider the highest priority item.

        The light blue letters represent city priorities. Especially getting the mining complete around Jackson to crank up for wonder production.

        The green letters are for 2nd-tier activities, as I call it. These are important, but less so than the actual road network. As for moving a mine to the hill NW of Legopolis, you are absolutely right. I just wasn't thinking clearly on that one!

        The yellow letters are later stage activities that will take a lot of time, but need to be done at some point.

        The dye, of course, should be connected once Legopolis expands again. I'm sorry I left that out, as I was just focusing on city surroundings.

        So, as you can see, that really just leaves one point of disagreement between us:

        I'm not sure if we shouldn't irrigate the grassland south from Legopolis, to let it grow faster; there are enough hills around for production
        That is a viable alternative, though I would still prefer to mine. Speeding up the growth isn't too high a priority while the jungle is still there, as far as I am concerned.

        Hope that clears things up!

          Zargon, I'm happy that we agree on most of the issues. This is encouraging

          To check the irrigation thing I've rerun my simulation with Legopolis, according with my earlier granary building plan, paying this time more attention to city size, production, etc.

          First of all, as long as we are in despotism, it is useless to irrigate garssland in the first place: it doesn't bring any extra food. So irrigating that southern tile is a question for the distant future.

          Then, following a worker-granary-merc-settler-merc-settler-etc build order, Legopolis will be always at size 3 and 4. Only at size 5 they would use the grassland (or one more hill), but this could happen only if we build something else instead of a settler at some point (perhaps a temple).

              Where should be put our next cities? Forkmouth will be one of them I suppose, but the other one?

              I think Legopolis will finish our next settler (after a mercenary) and probably Farmerwille the following one.

                I'd say Sharpehaven. That wheat tile will produce 3 food, great for making pop units. It'll be a shield-poor city, but it can always be a worker farm, which would enable Farmerville to produce settlers exclusively.
