Are we going to do something about this or not? I like Sharpe's solution. If anyone has a better one please speak now. If not, then we should accept it as our team policy in this matter and Jack should ask MarkG to act consequently.

MarkG we would like for you to further proceed in this matter. I have think that what Shrape suggested is a good way to go about it, but I know that it is up to you and the other team leader that is involved in this.

To others in team. For now please keep this quite. I am not so sure weather or not to say anything at this time, but as was shown that the cheater learned nothing, and just fooled vondrack. Making it public might not be nessecary.

The Psudo-Nimitz should be banned from the Demogame and be sent to Mingapulco for a month, OH, I AM SO PISSED. If one of the teams had anything to do with it they sould be kicked from the game.

              Was this ever resolved?

I just mention this as I have noticed that Trip's behaviour is curious - at first his team flies through their turns quickly and he is very taunting - then suddenly his team takes forever to take their turns and he is very silent - now he seems to be teasing again (witness his deliberate mangling of our beloved Legoland name ) and he is taunting about his quick turns (and our slow ones).

The only other possibility is that he stopped taunting when he met up with another civ - say New Demogyptica - and was worried and now he is in an alliance or coalition or feels more confident about their situation - very curious...

Yes, I'd like to know what happened. Could you PM MarkG, Jack? I think we deserve to be informed, at least.

MarkG has acted on this matter by contacting NYE of GS. Of course he is no longer playing right now, but he says that they found out about this and said one of their own team members was simply trying to test out the security of the chat of both our team and anther one. I will soon post the email reply from NYE as soon as I can.

                      It was someone from GS!

Oh, my... my apologies to the team and person I was unjustly suspecting.

As much as I respect NYE personally and GS as a whole, the explanation sounds a bit lame so far... and certainly does not help to raise their credit in my eyes.

Yeah, that explination does sound a little weak. It's not like they publicly announced they were doing a security test. I guess it was just for everyone's benefit though. But, hmm, they seem to have forgotten to have told us the results...And, oh, so they got some private team information in the process, I guess that was just an added bonus.

Agreed, I should have informed you. I thought that at the time, but forgot about it in the flury of events. For that you have my apologies, personally.

Please feel free to post that first message, and this email on your forum.

Well i will have to talk to our team about it. Just so you know we have taken steps to secure our communications on IRC so that this does not happen again. I dont see why you did not inform the other teams after your test so we would all know. I would also like to post your email in our team forum for all to see.

                          Hello Mark and Jack.

I am taking a break from the game right now, but this is serious enough for me to pay attention.

I am aware that Shiber did some probing of team security shortly after he joined. He reported to us that he could infiltrate some other teams on IRC. He also went to some trouble to set things up so that we could not easily be infiltrated.

When he reported to us, we discussed it briefly and decided that such eavesdropping would be against the pledge put forth by Togas that I signed on to with my team's approval.

As far as I know, his experiments were based on hiding presence, and not impersonation (going from memory). I'm not exactly sure what he did, because I do not know a lot about IRC.

At any rate, we asked Shiber not to try to infiltrate IRC anymore. As far as I know, he has honoured that request.

Is that satisfactory for Jack and legoland, as well as for you, Mark?

                          Greetings to both.

First my apologies to Jack as i'm late in moving forward with this issue.

NYE, i'm sad to inform you of an unfortunate incident.

On December 6 a member of the Legoland team reported that someone had
impersonated on irc another member of the team and got access to the
private irc channel. There wasnt a serious leak of information as the game
was at the begining but the issue still stands.

From the logs of the irc server, i believe the responsible person was
                          Shiber

i'm not contacting them yet as i havent had a complaint about it.
Also, there hasnt been any similar incident logged after that.

The Legoland team would prefer if this issue was dealt with internally at
Gathering Storm, without making a fuss in public.

I hope you agree with this

Fair enough comments from NYE, however I find it rather disturbing that they are trying to pass it off as a 'security test' on the other teams. I'm pretty sure if Shiber is prepared to go to such lenghts to check our security then whos to say he isn't still trying?

OK, then, I guess I have now a good idea about what happened. The spying incident apparently started as a personal initiative of Shiber, later rejected by the rest of Gathering Storm team.

I do not care about this "security testing" bull****. Shiber was obviously ready to play unfair and went to great lengths to get into our room. That puts him on my blacklist from now on. It is also apparent that nye and the rest of the GS team were not told the truth about the way Shiber sneaked in.

I would like to forward the incident description to nye, so that he knows what really happened. I would leave it up to him then whether he takes any actions or not.

Other than that I believe we can consider the case closed.
