  • Science - tax slider

OK, here's a poll about a pretty debated point.

    Question is :
What Budget should we give to our research ?

    Answers :
    - the lowest possible budget, to make the most money
    - a budget which still lets us make one or 2 gpt
    - a budget which only lets us not lose money.
    - 100% research, even if it means deficit spending.

It is assumed that each answer changes the speed of research, the more science budget the faster.

The poll will last 5 days, but will apply once the game starts.
    10
The lowest possible budget, to make the most money
    0.00%
    0
A budget wich lets us make 1 or 2 gold per turn
    10.00%
    1
A budget which only allows us not to lose money
    90.00%
    9
100% for science, even if it means deficit spending
    0.00%
    0

    The poll is expired.

    Well done, Spiffor.
I say max. science without losing money (which means 100% in the first few turns and later between 70% and 90%, depending on the situation).

What Tibi says. Just a small note: should there be more then one possible setting for the science slider that will result in a balanced or surplus budget and the same research time, let's use the lowest of them (I guess it is obvious, but anyway...). Check the setting every turn. Stick to this strategy at least until BW research is completed.

Yes, the setting (at least in the beginning) must be checked every turn to be sure to maximize the balance between not losing money and gaining tech. Everyone knows that there are many instances in which a 90% rate initially means getting the tech in 5 turns (with +0 gold per turn), but by the time 2 turns are left, it can be adjusted down to 50% and still achieve the tech in 2 turns but gain +7 gold. This is a must in the Ancient Age.

Well said Vondrack and Colonel. The slider must be checked every turn, for fastest research and also gold if possible.

Well, my answer is dependant on the tech being researched! I feel we should rush for BW as fast as we can, even if we take a slight monetary loss. Once that is done, however, we should ease back and try to keep a steady income.
