  • Should we take the pledge? (real thread)

The RPers have posted a pledge to not cheat, plant spies, etc; in other words, play honorably. Many teams and individuals are stating their support.

I was thinking we should pledge the same, hence the poll. Here's the pledge Togas made for the RPers:
As the leader and representative of my team, I give you the following promise:

I, and my team, hereby promise that we will fully abide by the rules and the spirit of the rules in this multi-team democracy game. We will not play ahead or abuse the save in any mannor. We will not attempt to enter or view any private forums. We will not fabricate PMs, edit other team's posts, or falsify our identities in any fashion. We will do our best to quickly complete our turns and make the save available for the next team prior to the deadline.

Furthermore, we will expell anyone from our team who willingly breaks these rules.
Poll lasts two days. Sorry for the short length of time, but Dec. 1st is fast approaching.

I'd say, yes, let's do the same. After all, it's just stating the obvious, isn't it? Jack? Your first presidential act?

Hmm, a spy would be nice, but otherwise I agree.

You mean plant spy as a false member of their team? In game spy's I'm sure are fine. Otherwise, I'm definitely for this!

The pledge (see above) does not use the term spy, it just says that they will not falsify identities (obviously in order to become "real" spies in other teams). I am sure that Civ3 spies ARE ok.

I was thinking actually that we should find traitors in the other teams

            Sun Tzu said:
"Thus, what enables the wise sovereign and the good general to strike and conquer, and achieve things beyond the reach of ordinary men, is foreknowledge.

Now this foreknowledge cannot be elicited from spirits; it cannot be obtained inductively from experience, nor by any deductive calculation.

Knowledge of the enemy's dispositions can only be obtained from other men.

Hence the use of spies ..."

*Tiberius walking up and down in the room ... mumbling ... Hmmm ... spies ... information ... victory ... fair play ... hmmm ...*

Oh well, I'll play fair then.

Hey, just for the record, it wasn't me who voted no! Don't blame me!

Since this poll has only one no vote, and it would only need one yes vote for a majority of the team, I suggest we take it as a "yes". Jack, would you post in the Pledge thread to make it official?

                    *bump*

I know it technically doesn't have a majority of the team, but are you really gonna tell me every single one of the people who didn't vote would vote no?

I, too, tend to consider this notion passed. Besides, according to our Constitution draft, this poll would be declared valid anyway.

Jack, would you add a brief post to the pledge thread, please? I believe this is a job for the President, not the VP.
