Very good point. We may add Port later on, after we build a harbour.

Proposals for the 2nd and 3rd city

Based on these proposals we can set up later the polls to choose the names. Right now, we need the proposals. So please, let your imagination fly ...

            2nd city (currently Jackson)

            - Jackson (and later Port Jackson)
            - Jackville
            - Ceremonial Hill
            - Howard's Hill
            - Jack's Hill

            3rd city

            - Panama City
            - Spiffopolis or Red Brick (if it's Spiffor's turn to choose)
            - Karina Bay or Fort Karina (if it's Vondrack's turn to choose)

I would go for Panama, the location just begs for it. Otherwise, when I am given the chance to name a city, the name will be Karina, Karina Bay, Fort Karina, or Karina Somethingelse.... I have already promised someone I would name "my" city this way...

                        Regarding the city names...

In the settlement plan proposal I posted in the Legoland Growth thread, I took a combined approach to naming the cities, naming some of them after landmarks or their location (North Outpost, Panama, Suez, Dye Fields, Forkmouth), others according to their intended function (Farmerville), others after our players (Jackson, Sharpehaven, Kloreepville), and others according to the wishes of our members (Red Brick).

I did this because I believe it will be much easier to remember where Dye Fields or Forkmouth (the mouth of the Fork River) is... when there was nothing significant enough, I was using names proposed by our members in this thread. I am still having Tiberium, Zargonia Bay, Abilene (is that you choice, lmtoops?), Logville (is that what you want, Nimitz?), Karina (something), and Odin Fjord in reserve for future cities. If anyone wishes to change a proposed city name, do so ASAP - as experience shows, once we start referring to a city as Jackson, it is unlikely to be renamed to something completely different... even if the only reason is to prevent confusion...

Thinking of this, renaming what I call Suez seems like the proper thing to do - real-world Suez is very different from the isthmus thing we have there. Plus, if we build the city upon the hill, there will no longer be any reason to go for Suez. Anyone interested in grabbing this one? North Outpost might also need a different name, as it may not remain very "northern" for too long... and it is a dull name anyway...

Actually, I noticed I'd prefer my city to be called Red Bricks (I know, it's not much of a difference, but I just noticed you need several bricks to build a city )

For naming cities I think that we have to balance identifiable names that we will be easily able to recall with not giving too much information about the cities to the opposing civs. We might have to be very careful...

Cities with names such as Dye Fields or Forkmouth or or Gold Mountain or Port "Anything" would clue them in that dyes are nearby, that Forkmouth has a river mouth in it (yes perhaps this is iffy), Gold Mountain has gold in it and Port would imply that it is on the coast. Even Panama would imply a canal type city to me or South Outpost would be another clue.

We shouldn't give such clues to our opponents so openly - friends or foes - as they could determine such things with a simple embassy that would give them the list of our cities even without a map. That might allow them to prioritize which cities that they want to go after.

Perhaps I am being a bit paranoid about this, but I still think that it is worth mentioning the possibility.

Yes, that's quite true. I'm sure we're not the only ones watchinf the Top 5, and if one of those cities manages to get on it...

                              Hmm...

Forkmouth could become simply "Fork". Don't know about the Ports, Fields, Panama, or Gold Mountain though.

We not just make those ones member-based? Panama could be Odin Fjords, etc.

Well, even though I do admit that we should not give our opponents too much information... I believe we are little bit overboard here. With the exception of Port Something (which we haven't used or planned to use yet), we actually dislose little with names like Forkmouth, Panama, North Outpost, or Dye Fields...

First: AFAIK, the Top 5 cities are chosen based mostly on their culture... with the difficulty setting at the pitiful Chieftain, it'll take eons before someone actually starts building culture generating city improvements and thus, the Top 5 will - for the foreseeable future - be occupied by capitals only. When this changes, embassies will already be in place, rendering Top 5 obsolete as far as getting information about cities go.

Second: even if you know that Legoland has a city named Panama that may be a canal type city (because of the name) somewhere, this information is rather useless to you, until you actually locate the city... and then you (would) know it anyway... The same goes for Forkmouth, Dye Fields, Farmerville... you can guess what these cities are for or what is likely to be in their vicinity, but you can't really use the information until you discover the cities themselves - and then you just verify that the name actually has something to do with the geography or function...

So, I'd say that we go ahead with names we will easily remember... let's always think about if the name reveals any useful information, but let's be reasonable...

BTW, I would love love to rename North Outpost. Anyone having some nice replacement name? I thought about Howard's Crest...? Anyone to use his "personal" name for that place? Just ask and it will be yours! The name as it stands now is quite dull, I admit... I can imagine using Conan's Neck instead of Panama. Also, I was thinking of having a city called Dyety (as in Diety... ) instead of Dye Fields. Or, we could use Diety as well... Still easy to remember, but pretty confusing for others...

And, one more thing... I feel somewhat reluctant to name cities after inactive members... after all, it's kind of a honour to be allowed to name a city to your liking...
