  • ND Luxury deal

Should we accept the luxury deal with ND?

    The possibilities:

    1. Yes, take the double deal.- 2 x 151 gold for 20 turns of 2 different luxuries

    2. Yes, but make it a simple deal: 1 x 151 gold for 20 turns of a single luxury

    3. No, make it a money for money deal: we give them 151 gold, they give us 151 back after xx turns (plus some extra?) - explain

    4. No money for ND! Give them a banana instead. A little late for that

We should give rather a banana to ND instead of money. A little late for that :p

For previous discussions on the subject take a look at this thread:

I'm in favour of taking the double-luxury deal. There are multiple reasons why:
    - the whole thing will cost us less than 2 turns of research stop.
    - We gain cheaper happiness than we could obtain using the luxury slider (252 gold instead of ~ 500 - 600)
    - we eliminate the need for cathedrals in the near future, securing our cities' happiness in the GA and clearing the way for the more useful markets
    - we help ND in their war against GS
    - we gain ND's trust even more. We don't know what allies we will have in the endgame
    - we avoid a possible luxury-embargo against us. With one civ trading with us, the others will likely do it, too.

Question: is ND going to have 3 luxuries after the war? If so, we will get 3 luxuries from them (the 3rd from a straight 1 to 1 luxury deal)

Btw, why is it 151 gold and not 150, is beyond me. Probably sounds more intriguing

Because 151g was all we had in our coffers.

I did not leave the last piece of gold there, because it's easier to believe that this non-round sum is "all Lego had". And once the first number was up, I felt it would be weird to value the second luxury differently.

I am for the double-deal as well (does this have only one meaning? ).

          Good point.
However making this deal public when the game is over, will probably win the "weirdest deal" award

A "just in case" question: what is the final sum we would accept, should ND say that the deal is not balanced? I mean, what if they change their minds and vote internally that 150 for 20 turns of luxury is not enough and they want more or otherwise they'd just pay us money back?

I'd say that even paying as much as 200 gold for a single luxury would be a good deal. More than that would be a bit expensive. Should Radek (or anyone else) be obliged to negotiate, IMO we should give him the freedom to go as high as 200 gold/luxury. Well of course this is just my 2 cents.

Well, I am not sure I would be happy to pay much more. The fact is... considering THEIR needs, we are delivering quite a value. 300g basically for nothing. Exactly when they need it... if they feel the price should be higher, cool - but we may need to rush our marketplace in Jackson more then...

What I want to say is: IMHO, the deal we offered was generous - and a win-win one. If ND wanted more gold, it would mean they'd be considering what is the value of the luxury for us (not wishing to allow us to get some great value, too)... and that wouldn't be nice of them.

BTW... do you think they'd be able to get 300g for two luxuries from anyone but us? (I do not think I need to add "at this moment" here at all...).

Besides, judging from Darekill's response, I do not think ND will try to bargain...

EDIT: to make sure this does not sound contradictory to what I'm usually talking like... I am happy to offer and deliver sweet deals - but I am pissed as hell when the other party, instead of thanking nicely for a fine deal, tries to squeeze even more out of me...

I'm not saying that we would be happy if ND asked for more gold, but giving them a little more would still be a good deal for us. The limit is 200 gold/luxury IMHO. Don't forget that those 3 or 4 happy faces would cost us much more using the luxury slider during our GA.

We have now only 5 active members? In the FAM poll there were 11 votes, I think. Even without Sharpe we should have 10 votes.

Indeed this poll isn't so interesting like an election poll, and it isn't very important either, I'm just curios where did half of the team disappear.
