  • GS & The Great Lighthouse

Why did Gathering Storm build the Lighthouse (300 Shields)?

Out of all the Great Wonders they could of chosen, I see the least value in the lighthouse.

The Pyramids (400 Shields) – Free Granaries
Unavailable, because Lego got them. Plus, I assume they may not have had 400 shields

The Great Library (400 Shields) – Free Tech
Was probably again, the 400 shields was out of their reach.

The Hanging Gardens (300 Shields) – Happy producer
Would be only available if they had the monarchy…which I don’t know if they have.
And perhaps given the easy difficulty level, happy faces are easier to maintain.
And I doubt it would help them with their war effort

The Oracle (300 Shields) – Doubles Temple effects
Again…happy faces are pretty easy to maintain, and this wonder is not going to help them with their war effort.

The Great Wall (200 Shields) – Free Walls in every city {edit} Nope, thats wrong - Your current walls are just doubled in strength
Surely they would want this ? Fortified Pikes behind walls could fend off Immortals.
Are they so arrogant that they don’t see the threat of destruction ?
Did they just decide not to get it because they did not want to waste shields ?
Do they already have walls or Pop6 cities…I doubt this ?

The Colossus (200 Shields) - +1 commerce in every square producing Commerce
If they did not want walls, then this would also help with the war effort by producing more gold. More gold could mean the difference between able to rush 1 extra pikeman or not.
Again…did they just not want to waste the shields? And are now risking their destruction

The Light house (300 Shields) - +1 Ship Movement and safe travel in seas
This Wonder that they have chosen, will help them very little in the war effort.
They really should be concentrating on their home defence, and not launching galleys North for a counter attack.
And being able to safely travel in seas will not keep them away from Vox galleys.

These guys are strategists…the smartest of us all….why did they choose the Lighthouse ??

    1. Because they are too arrogant to see the real danger they are in ? They did not want to waste any shields ? But even still …Why the lighthouse over the Oracle or the Great Library which would be far better IMO.
    2. Because they are planing on a massive galley counter assault ? But this sounds unlikely
    3. Are they planning their escape ? Can they see the Lego continent ? But need the safe sea passage to get there ?

I truly do not know the answer….I would of certainly cut my losses and just build the Great Wall.

The wall is no longer free walls in all cities, that was Civ 2. It now doubles an existing walls effectiveness and your combat verses Barbarians. Still, that would make any walled city pretty effective with a garrison of Pikes...

My bet is they see an island and need the lighthouse to get there.

That just shows how often I build the Great Wall....Never

      Thanks for the info.

Still... a big waste just to get an island.
Perhaps they can see the backside of Lego?

Now that I know the Great Wall doesnt give free walls, I would of chosen the Colossus. But I guess that would only be possible, if their Wonder city was on a coast.

So....Perhaps the real reason, is that there was no wonder that would help them with the war ?

My guess is they were building the Pyramids and looked for something to invest the pent up shields into so they could start building units for their war.

They have NOT traded maps with anyone so may not realize how worthless their Wonder choice was.

All depends on how close to 300 shields they were before they switched and how confident they are of victory.

If they were more or less around 300 and are smug in their idea of not getting wiped out they probably decided not to waste shields and get something, worthless, but nevertheless might be useful later.

How far is legoland from us? Maybe lighthouse is necessary in order to reach legoland.
