I don't think we should go ahead with the ivory colony, for these reasons:
1. It would take at least 12 turns to get the first city there, and many more turns after to set up the whole colony system. By the time we get the ivory/iron hooked up, we will be at war with RP. We then have to split the continent 50-50 with tiles and resources with ND, and probably (maybe) have to give up the cities.
2. The settler can be used to found a city on the island in between Lego and us, giving us a more naval power, and having a much less corrupt city.
3. The colony would be a spot for RP to counter attack, instead of going for ND.Proud Member of the ISDG Apolyton Team; Member #2 in the Apolyton Yact Club.

GF,
Although I like the idea of securing our own source of iron. I just believe that it is too risky and undefendable.
Plus it will take too long to join it up by road or harbor.
I think the settler could be better used a lot closer to home. Damn why was there no iron on that island.
I dont know where to send it. I need to load up the game and have a good look.

I must share in the same sentiment. Send a settler over to the newly discovered Island if there is no more room in the north. One who has a surplus of the unorthodox shall attain surpassing victories. - Sun Pin

Unfortunately, these colonies would become part of a bidding war - whoever has the most troops gets them, and the Harbor will costs 156 gold, too,
However, if we were to come up with a plan to use it as bait - to get RP or Lego to spend more defending it than its worth, or as a diversionary tactic, get them to use troops there when we are targeting their homeland. If anyone has a suggestion about that, I'd welcome it.Last edited by realpolitic; March 18, 2003, 17:00.
