  • Potential Ivory Colony

Based on the map ND sent us this looks like a prime spot to build a colonial foothold in the south.

Colony? Maybe we ought to get a settler there to corner the market. I also saw some other luxuries there!

IF this continent is a good place for our FP we could build it with a GL. It's too early to say, this is just speculation.

I think 'colony' doesn't refer to Civ III colonies, but to far off cities that would be very corrupt.

While I like the idea in general, are we going to be able to defend it properly? It does give us another source of iron as well...

how quick could we build a harbor, temple, and worker down there?

I think we would be better off using that settler to build a more productive city now closer to home, though.

An Ivory colony is a great idea in SP games. Here, not so. If we build a city down there, it will get squished VERY quickly by RP, no questions asked. Just think back to us having a warrior down that direction. And he was just exploring! If we do something like this, we will put ourselves directly in the crosshairs of the most devious team in the game.

Oh, come now, I think that I can be at least NEARLY as devious as them...

But, I agree with the general assessment

Actually, I am fairly certain they expect this to be coming once we have their map. We need Iron, they have no way of knowing we have a source from ND, in fact to not attempt the Ivory Colony is to invite suspiscion. We simply stress that we need more citysites and point out that they have more than half the continent.

We need to establish the colonies as quickly as possible and began using them as bait. We tell Roleplay that in the upcoming war with ND (which they hope to enlist our help with) we can negotiate the turn over of the cities to them in return for adequate compensation.

Or we can tell them this is our assurance they follow though and will turn over the cities once the war is over.

                      Let's get this straight:

We are telling RP that we need the city for a war on ND.

We are telling ND it is our ensurance that they will uphold their end of the bargain.

The flaw here is that we have already agreed with ND that we will wait to split up the island by tiles and resources after the war. Colonizing all of the ivory may be seen as a move against that. RP seems to believe they are to be the sole inhabitors of southern Bob and is unlikely to listen to reason. This is a move that would push the potential for us to be on the recieving end of the next war of Bob. ND gets the north, RP gets the south...is that too hard to believe it has been at least spoken of between those two teams?

                        RP wont go for it.

They are establishing thier northern boundery with ND with cities.

If we plant a city down there, they will refuse to deal with us, like they did with our exploration warriors.

That means we wont be able to maintain the illusion that ND is our target. And fake alliance with RP will be impossible.

I don't understand why ND is an issue. They have agreed that establishing cities behind Roleplay's lines is good thing and have said they plan to do it themselves. Roleplay can't afford to pick a fight with us as they are convinced ND is out to get them and have been trying to get us to join their side.

If we don't establish the colony we leave Roleplay it control of FOUR LUXURIES. Ivory, Silk, Spice, and Gems. That's half the world's supply and they can use it to manipulate and influence the actions of the other teams.

To give Roleplay that much power when we are in a position to acquire some of it for ourselves is a major strategic error in my opinion.

Did we not learn nothing from the fall of Lux? This is to far for us to defend! If ND said they were going to do this, then let them. Let them over extent their lines and piss off RP. It will help us in our decption of RP in the long run.

And When the war starts, where do you think most of RP's forces are going to be? AT the colony! Their backside will be open to our Rider rush!

You do realise that if we establish the colony, then RP would get relativly angry, and might declare war on us? This is good! We were going to declare war on them, but now we don't have to!! They save us the trouble! In fact, we have a NAP with them, so we might actually have a PR case.

Alternatively, if RP does not declare war, and simply embargoes us, then so be it. We embargoed them, so what difference does it make?? We can then use the colonies as a launching point for a two front assault against the Roleplaying forces.
