  • Poll:Do we build roads offensively?

This seems to be an interesting tactic. If your're playing against dumb AI it certainly is worth it, especally if you produce many shields/turn. I employ it in the early (SP) game. Since we're Industrious, it will work even better.

I admit I'm no expert on this, so please we need other opinions.

Another question is when. If we wait until the war, we keep our secrecy, and lose some effectiveness. I have not been close enough to the diplomacy in this game, but HE says he thinks it will take about 3 days to leak. GF says he wecomes the leak.
There are 4 civs on this continent, and I've read about 3 of them participating in this war. How seeing these roads being built effect our neutral neighbor? I don't have a clue, so I hope you do.

The choice in the poll, "sometime before the war" is inexact, we'll have to hash it out on text. Also, roads outside our cultural boundries can be used against us.

Where building offensive roads is a good idea against the AI, against humans I don't think it would be cost effective.

If we were to come across a worker (or two workers) guarded by a spear, do you think we would hesitate to attack it? Additionally, I think that in a MP game with humans, we will see more and larger stacks of units.

In short, I think that even a single worker would need a minimum of 2 or 3 spear to guard it. This simple is not feasable at this point..
