Been having some fevers..really bad head-aches & nausea for about a week.
finally dragged myself to the local doctor, who did not really know what to do as I was already taking the strongest medication he was willing to prescribe...and they weren't working.
Decided to send me to the Emergency Department for some blood tests etc.
I walked in at 2.00pm.
They had head CT scans and blood tests by 4.00pm.. both negative.
So they decided to do a lumbar puncture and take some spinal fluid around 5.00pm
While doing it, they said that my spinal fluid pressure was high…which was causing the headaches.
Then spent 2 hours waiting for the results of the tests.
7.00pm, Yep…white blood cells in the spinal fluid were very high, so I had an infection.
But they had no-one available to look at the slides to tell if it was bacterial or viral.
They called someone back to the hospital, and a couple of hours later, confirmed that he was 95% sure it was viral.
So that’s bad…no antibiotics for me…just observation, and they still did not know what the virus was.
So… they tried to get a bed for me in the hospital.
At 4.00am, I was still lying on a hospital gurney in the Emergency Room.
Finally got some chest x-rays, and a bed at 4.15am.
Got woken up at 6.00am for pain medication.
Doctors (proper ones – not the ER ones) finally started turning up.
They think I have a “meningitis type” viral infection….but are unsure of what sort…it takes a few days.
But as I am not dead or dieing, they figure it must be reasonably harmless, and send me home.
The fevers are gone, and so is the nausea, but the headaches remain.
Especially, when I look at a PC monitor, when it feels like someone is jamming hot needles into my eyes.
So…guys… I gotta take another week or so off. Looking at the PC monitor is killing me.
Hope everything is going well, I will check in very soon.
