As far as I know, we are the best godd-mn Civ3 players around. If there is anyone that can get through this, it is us.
Everyone of us, every one, has experience and skill that bear upon this point. Aeson's SVC, Nathan for balance (I remember the GLib), Sir Ralph for aggression, the Arrian Deception, Dominae (and where's alexman?) for unbelievable optimization, and everyone else as well.
And beyond that, we all are strong in ALL aspects of the game... even, I think, in this new form, against humans / teams, where NYE, aatw, DeepO, and alva have shined.
(Note: I think all you guys are great, and I'm just highlighting some of the attributes that jump out for me...)
We need to break out of all of the boxes... what comes next will require a response worthy of an Alexander, a Scipio, a Caesar... Charlemagne and Saladin... Henry and Napoleon... Patton, Powell, and Rumsfeld.
We know what needs to be considered:
Incredible shield micromanagement
City view build management
Short-rushes
Upgrades
Worker disbands
Worker sacrifices
Damaged unit sacrifices
Town sacrifices
Retreat odds
Defense values
Movement penalties
... and more
We need to make sure that over the next few turns we REALLY think of everything that can be 'thunk'... depending on when the turn comes in, I am probably going to make up an excuse and come home in the middle of the day tomorrow (EST) to help. Also, if it's OK with everybody, I am going to PM Vel at this juncture.
Call it hubris, but F*CK VOX, I think we can take'em, and then take them down... down for the count.
And if and when we find out the shadows behind Vox' attack, we take them down too.
Basically, I am pissed off. And to use one of my old favorite USMC phrases, it is time to "kick *ss and take names."
