  • The Apolyton Chronicle?

We have seemed to neglect this issue- what do you all think about letting Trip in, for making this chronicle?

I personally think it is possible, but only if the chronicle is published at the end of the game, not before.

Trip was the father of the game, and its a shame that he'll have to leave so soon, even if he screwed things up. I think it'll be fun to review our history once this game is over...

In principal I think it's okay, but I will need to see some example, and a more structured proposal before I agree.

And letting Trip into our forum... well... it would relieve Alva from being our historian but I'm not sure if I can trust him enough. I don't really know him that good...

It's just human nature to drop hints or color our statements based on information we have. I don't think giving someone that involved with the game access to the forums of all the teams is a good idea. There will be information given out in Trip's posts, whether he realizes he's spilling things or not. The same as with anyone.

I would lean towards voting against this as well. It seems to me, that in the past that he has had loose lips, and I would be fearful of more of the same. I would rather have an outsider come in and do this than trip. Plus there were certain posts that I'm not sure he would be mature enough to handle or not take personally.

On balance I'm in favour of it, although I'm not the one putting all the work into this team - so if anything went wrong I wouldn't be the one who had wasted all their time. Take my opinion on this with a pinch of salt.

I'm with Aeson on this point, unless he wrights about stuff that's really finished (Lux for example, or us meeting Vox), his articles will influence present dealings.

And what if he just posts his articles after the game's over?

I think we're not the only ones afraid of things getting spilled out- GoW is as well, but if it's published after the game is over, i think it's okay...

I'm saying his posts, regardless of when the articles are published, will be affected by what he reads in the forums. It may be in a way no one picks up on, or it may be readily apparent... but it happens. We can't expect him to seperate this knowlege both consciously and otherwise from the knowlege he gains in other ways.

                  I agree with Aeson.

                    There's a point in what Aeson's saying.
But still, i think it's a shame we won't have something to look at when this game's over, after all, history is written by the victorious.

I would much rather just have everyone's forums open after the game is over.

History is most fun when there are several different versions anyways...

To illustrate my problem with this idea, those in the IDG can look at Trip's recent post in the Next turn planning thread. He has based some reasoning off of there being 7 teams in game instead of 8. It's probably a mix up where he was using the PTWDG civ numbers for his reasoning instead of the actual IDG numbers. These types of mistakes are subconscious, and almost sure to be made by anyone.

In this case, the information is completely harmless as the number of civs is public for both games, but it shows part of the mechanism by which information is going to be given out.

We as team members are going to make enough of these mistakes by ourselves... we don't need outside help in spreading our secrets!
