  • Turn 53, 1670BC

To be edited by the leaders of the Scholia.

    Status:
    - Researching Writing at 100%, ready in 1 turn.
    - 70 gold cash, -2 per turn, sliders to be adjusted this turn

    Urgent questions:
    - none

    Military:
    - The warrior near Tempest moves in the city, and the warrior out of the city moves towards the incense desert

    Economy:
    - Worker #1 moves onto the game forest to prepare to chop, then irrigate, then road. (He can hook up the horses after that and still be ready around the time the barracks is.)
    - Rearrange laborers in EotS to gain as many shields as we can without compromising growth.
    - Change EotS build order to settler.
    - According to Vox, we just got contact with RP, so we may get Writing this turn. If so, go ahead and offer it to Vox as a gift consistent with our tech deal so they can start on Philosophy immediately, and start on Code of Laws at 100%. If not, adjust the science slider to avoid wasting gold.

    Diplomacy:
    - discussion whether we continue the GL or not, and how we involve Vox in it
    - Vox has agreed to the formalized research partnership agreement.
    - Should now have in-game contact with RP. Check tech costs to see if there are any surprises regarding what techs RP does and doesn't have.

just nit-picking: you probably mean the game forest...

Edit by Nathan: Thanks for the catch; I fixed it.

How about naming the spearman? i think someone mentioned we would stop using silly names for units once we have veterans- so how about something royal or at least noble? or maybe some real military name?

Perhaps: "1st corps of the Tempest Guard"? (hmm... "the Tempest Guard"- a good name for our army, now that i think of it).
Or maybe: "His Tempest's Zealots", or simply "Zealots", maybe "Tempest Hounds". I just want a name that would make me feel we have an army, not a band of moron neanderthals...

I just got a note back from Beta. The techs should arrive this turn. Edit: But they won't, because he forgot when he played the turn (according to a more recent messge). The good news is that we should now have contact with RolePlay, so we're no longer faced with an in-game contact monopoly.

I made a couple edits to the Diplomacy section, one reflecting the fact that Vox has agreed to the research partnership agreement we ratified and the other noting that we should now have contact with RolePlay and suggesting checking tech costs.

Posting this here due to lack of a more suitable thread:
It appears that ND doesn't talk much to the other teams. Perhaps they're feeling somewhat isolated, because they're from a different civ site. If we strike a friendly conversation with their representatives, we might get ourselves a good friend, much like the way that a blind person that is able to see after surgery falls in love with the first person he sees.

And the truth isn't what you want to see,
Close your eyes, and let music set you free..."

Probably that, and that only a handful of them speak english. And I daresay that we have more German speakers than the other teams, probably even combined. Perhaps a friendly note in the native tongue would get the ball rolling?

                  no, not even gonna try.
(sorry, but my German isn't any better than Jean-Marie Pfaff's )

Asleep, that's an excellent idea! I stayed in Mainz for a couple of weeks as part of a students exchange program and judging from my experience, most Germans don't speak English very well. Can the German members of the team confirm/deny this?
In any case, addressing them in their native tongue will surely break the ice.

                      Ich könnte es probieren.

Ok, not a problem as long as you don't want me to translate every word of their diplomatic notes and are content with short abstracts.

I'm a member of their site too, even with the same nickname, but have cool 8 posts in the last year, opposed to 3000 here. And I'm of course unable to enter their private forum.

So I'm willing to be the envoy to Neu Demogyptica, if the people of GS accepts it.

Sounds most logical, Sir Ralph. I understand German too (at least as good as Jean-Marie), so apart from the abstracts, both myself and Alva should keep an eye out for things you might miss.

The English of the average German is worse than the English of the average Finn and most likely the average Israeli, but better than the English of the average French. I'd say on a scale of 1 (worst) to 5 (best), it's somewhere between 2 and 3. Personally, I have no problems to write in English, but my pronouncation is awful and even if you could make me say something (which is unlikely), you probably wouldn't understand a word.

Your written English is excellent, though.

You are the natural choice for envoy to ND.
