  • Advising the other teams re: barbarians

Until only recently, most of us thought that barbarians were sedentary on this map. I figure that we're not the only team that were living in ignorance up until now.
On Chieftain, barbarians are not a threat. They will only serve as an annoyance and somewhat of a hassle to most of the other teams. The possibility that one of the teams will get one of their cities sacked by a barbarian is of course very welcome but alas, very remote.
Now, this is just an idea, but I was thinking: maybe we could take this lemon and make lemonade (apologies for the corny expression). Maybe we could send diplomatic messages to all the other teams (except Vox, they already know) alerting them that we have just recently come across barbarians, and that there may be barbarians roaming around in their territory as well. Those teams who do not know of this yet will certainly appreciate the tip, and this could give us some credit in the future in terms of diplomatic relations.
    Discuss.

Any team that doesn't know already will probably know very soon so I doubt this will cost us anything and might help to make us a bit more popular.

If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

IMHO, even the teams that already know of this will appreciate this letter. It gives one a sort of a 'neighborhood Mr. Rogers' appearance.
Speaking of appearances, Sir Ralph's profile tells that he is a warmonger in Civ. Sir Ralph, you might wanna change that because it could give Vox the wrong impression... or rather, the right impression. Anyway, it won't give them the kind of impression that we would like them to have... or will it? Discuss.

spilling the barb news: sure, why not. I doubt it will net us much, but it won't cost us anything either...

I'll send a note regarding this issue to GoW.

          Nice idea Shiber.

Thanks. I'd recommend sending similar notes to all the groups (except Vox of course, since they already know about the barbs).

No, send it to Vox also. They may feel cut out if they hear about it from another civ who said that we send them the message.

We'd be insulting Vox's intelligence to send them a warning about barbarians when there's a barbarian standing right next to their warrior/worker team (and especially considering that Willy is already headed for the barb camp).

By the way, I, too, like the idea of sending barb warnings to the other teams.

I see your point, but there's a barbarian warrior right next to one of their warriors. They know for sure, and they know that we know for sure that they know for sure, and we'd look like complete idiots if we tell them something that they know that we know that they know, and I'm getting dizzy

I don't think that they would be insulted, but we would definatly look like idiots, which is exactly what sort of an image we should be fostering.

Make us look dumnb and slow and put them off their guard, and then strike them when they turn their back.
